About The Position

Conducts environmental assignments and duties for the Environmental Department under minimal supervision. Directs or leads the work of others from time-to-time. HF Sinclair Corporation, headquartered in Dallas, Texas, is an independent energy company that produces and markets high-value light products such as gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, renewable diesel and other specialty products. HF Sinclair owns and operates refineries located in Kansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Wyoming, Washington and Utah and markets its refined products principally in the Southwest U.S., the Rocky Mountains extending into the Pacific Northwest and in other neighboring Plains states. HF Sinclair supplies high-quality fuels to more than 1,500 branded stations and licenses the use of the Sinclair brand at more than 300 additional locations throughout the country. In addition, subsidiaries of HF Sinclair produce and market base oils and other specialized lubricants in the U.S., Canada and the Netherlands, and export products to more than 80 countries. Through its subsidiaries, HF Sinclair produces renewable diesel at two of its facilities in Wyoming and also at its facility in Artesia, New Mexico. HF Sinclair provides petroleum product and crude oil transportation, terminalling, storage and throughput services to its refineries and the petroleum industry.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 8-10 years of related industry and on-the-job experience is required.
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in environmental sciences or a related field is required.
  • Ability to lead and train a small group of employees in a Technical Expert capacity.
  • Special training in hazardous waste regulations and DOT Hazmat Shipping.
  • Advanced ability to provide analyses of proposed and final waste, RCRA, and MTCA regulations that significantly impact operations and/or compliance status.
  • Advanced working knowledge of environmental waste and remediation regulations required depending on assignment.
  • Ability to perform dangerous waste calculations preferably with a practical understanding of refinery processing programs.
  • Understanding of oil refining processes (process flow diagrams/mechanical flow sheets).
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbal communication.
  • Advanced reading and writing skills, with the ability to perform complex mathematical calculations.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with strategies and technologies used for the remediation of contaminated sites.
  • Experience with managing contractors conducting investigations and corrective actions such as drilling, excavation, and remedy construction.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • General knowledge and understanding of RCRA and MTCA regulations, with a particular emphasis in site closure requirements preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates environmental waste and remediation programs and provides environmental assistance to business units
  • Ensures environmental programs comply with the applicable federal, state, and local government laws
  • Advises management of environmental issues and activities necessary to ensure compliance
  • Proposes environmental policies, programs and initiatives
  • Represents the company to governmental environmental agencies, the public, and trade/professional associations
  • Ensures environmental considerations are factored into corporate planning and the capital budget process
  • Tracks environmental performance measures and recommends parameters
  • Provides documentation and environmental analysis for management review
  • Prepares comments on proposed Environmental regulations, and maintains involvement with trade associations as appropriate
  • Advises and manages the company’s compliance with site-wide MTCA agreed order requirements
  • Manages and maintains solid waste permits, agreed orders, and closure and post-closure activities in SWMUs
  • Participates in third party compliance audits of company’s facilities
  • Provides oversight to Company’s RCRA remediation activities and accruals
  • Prepares and submits routine waste, RCRA, agreed order, SWMU, and MTCA reports
  • Involved in incident management team environmental unit responsibilities and is trained in ICS structure
  • Manages waste budget and contractor activities related to waste and remediation
  • Interfaces with regulatory agencies to ensure the understanding of, and compliance with, all applicable environmental regulations and requirements
  • Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their superior, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.
