About The Position

Crusoe is seeking a well-rounded and experienced Environmental Specialist to join our expanding Power Infrastructure Team. This new role, based at our Abilene, TX facility, will report into the Facilities Operations Director, serving as the primary on-the-ground environmental resource for day-to-day operations at the site and across the region. While embedded with Operations, this specialist will work in close coordination with the Corporate Environmental team to ensure that all environmental requirements are identified, communicated, understood, and met in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations. The ideal candidate is a proactive, solutions-focused generalist with broad environmental compliance experience across all media — including air quality, stormwater, waste, and spill prevention This is a full-time position. Requirements

  • Education and Experience: A university degree or at least 10 years of relevant experience is required. An engineering or environmental degree is preferred. A minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience is required.
  • Environmental Expertise: Broad working knowledge across all environmental media (air, water, waste, land). Experience with environmental data management, tracking systems, and regulatory reporting. Preference given to candidates with strong experience CEMs and stack testing experience.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective interaction across all levels of the organization and with external agencies.
  • Computer Skills: Excellent computer skills for managing documentation, databases, and reporting.
  • Teamwork and Problem-Solving: The ability to work proactively and collaboratively as a solutions-focused team member.
  • Travel: Ability to travel to field sites regularly (estimated up to 30–40%). This role will support multiple sites in Texas.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Certifications: A professional certification, such as a Certified Environmental Professional (CEP). Certified Professional in Waste Management (CPWM) or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) is a plus.
  • Experience with Power Generation: Direct experience with environmental compliance in power generation, manufacturing, or oil and gas operations.
  • Geographical Experience: Prior experience working with environmental regulations in the ERCOT and Texas.

Responsibilities

  • Compliance Strategy: Partner with the Corporate Environmental team to assess new projects and existing field operations to identify applicable environmental regulations, permits, registrations, and compliance obligations. Conduct field audits to validate data and information needed for environmental compliance demonstrations, and support timely permit acquisition to keep business plans on track.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Support the development and maintenance of environmental databases and tracking systems used to monitor the status of permits, compliance obligations, testing schedules, and reporting deadlines. Collect, organize, and review field data to support accurate and complete submissions of required permits, reports, and regulatory filings across all environmental media.
  • Environmental Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as a field-level Subject Matter Expert across all environmental media, including air quality (stationary engines, CEMs, stack testing), stormwater (SWPPP/NPDES), spill prevention (SPCC/FRP), above-ground storage tanks (ASTs), and waste management (RCRA). Maintain current awareness of evolving federal, state, and local environmental requirements and proactively communicate changes to the Corporate Environmental team.
  • Internal and External Collaboration: Serve as a key liaison between field operations and the Corporate Environmental team, ensuring that site personnel understand their compliance, inspection, and reporting responsibilities. With guidance, coordinate with regulatory agencies as needed to support inspections, permit applications, and compliance demonstrations
  • Incident Investigation and Audits: Plan and assist with field compliance audits and self-assessments. Support environmental incident investigations and root cause analyses following any non-compliance events, and assist in developing corrective action plans.
  • Training and Awareness: Support delivery of environmental compliance training for field personnel across all relevant program areas. Ensure that all required environmental documentation, permits, and plans are current, accessible, and maintained at applicable worksites. Assist with development of training materials and job aids to build field-level environmental awareness. Support development and implementation of corporate and site environmental policies and procedures.
