About The Position

The Environmental Specialist takes the lead on grant programs, assisting with activities including project planning and implementation, community education and outreach, financial and grants administration, and data and information management for environmental programs with an emphasis on water quality and conservation.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Studies or equivalent work experience.
  • Three years prior experience in Environmental Program Management and Coordination is required.
  • Advanced computer proficiency utilizing Microsoft applications, email, and internet.
  • Quality Orientation: Setting high standards regarding his/her work and working environment and acting accordingly; developing quality standards, continuously evaluating performance, products, and procedures; actively seeking ways to improve quality.
  • Data Gathering and Analytics: Collecting, consolidating, and using relevant information; recognizing important information; tracing possible causes of problems, and searching for practical data/solutions.
  • Oral Communication: Shaping and expressing ideas and information in an effective manner.
  • Written Communication: Expressing ideas and opinions clearly in properly structured, well organized, and grammatically correct reports or documents; utilizing language and terminology that is understandable for the reader.
  • Continuous Learning: Actively and continuously gaining insight of strengths and weaknesses in order to identify the relevant areas that need further development (with regard to skills and knowledge) and acting upon it.
  • Stress Tolerance: Performing well when faced with pressure due to time frame, workload, adversity, disappointment, or opposition.

Nice To Haves

  • Geographic Information Systems, GIS, Certification or the ability to obtain such is preferred.
  • Native American hiring preference applies.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, maintains, and expands environmental programs.
  • Performs grant proposal preparation and grant program management.
  • Prepares and manages grant program budgets.
  • Oversees data collection, management, and analysis.
  • Oversees field surveys and assessments such as biological samplings, air monitoring, zero waste, hazardous waste, and solid waste.
  • Coordinates and participates in community and education outreach efforts.
  • Assists with new and/or existing environmental programs, specifically energy, water quality, and building performance related projects, as the need arises.
  • Participates in environmental strategic planning and grant/proposal development and submittal.
