About The Position

Maryland Environmental Service (MES) has an opening for a full-time Environmental Specialist Trainee (EST) or Environmental Specialist (ES) in the Environmental Dredging and Restoration Division located at our Headquarters facility in Millersville, MD. Classification offered is commensurate with experience. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to contract and task management; writing and formatting technical reports, meeting attendance and coordination, assisting with data review and compilation; monitoring and/or sampling plan development and review, permitting support and regulatory coordination; public outreach activities; and occasional field work and/or site visits and other project related needs. The selected applicant may be required to drive to field sites, community events, or labs to fulfill management, outreach, meeting attendance, or sampling/monitoring requirements. Assistance with other EDR projects may be required.

Requirements

  • EST: a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, ecology, biology, chemistry, geology or a related field from an accredited college or university, no prior experience required.
  • ES: In addition to the education experience listed above, a minimum of one year of experience in environmental science, regulations, engineering, or management.
  • Applicants should have a valid driver’s license with less than 5 points.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
  • MES does not participate in programs which require sponsorship for work visas.

Nice To Haves

  • Firsthand experience with preparing scientific and environmental technical reports and permit applications, natural resource planning, and task management.
  • Strong verbal, written, and technical skills, knowledge and experience with financial management, and fluency in MS Office Suite, including PowerPoint.
  • Additional experience with field-level environmental monitoring, data collection, data management, and analysis as well as public outreach experience is also beneficial.
