Shift: The regular hours for this position are day shift. Job Description: The Environmental Specialist supports the implementation and continuous improvement of environmental programs within a semiconductor manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable environmental regulations and internal standards, minimizing environmental risk, and supporting sustainable manufacturing operations. The position operates as an independent contributor, applying professional-level technical expertise to complex processes, hazardous materials, and highly regulated fab operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience in semiconductor manufacturing, electronics, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, or other highly regulated industrial environments.
  • Demonstrated experience working independently on moderately complex environmental issues.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting ISO 14001 or other formal Environmental Management Systems.
  • Direct experience with air permitting, wastewater systems, or hazardous waste programs in a semiconductor fab.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., CHMM, PE, or equivalent) are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure site compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations (e.g., air, water, wastewater, hazardous waste, chemical management).
  • Implement and maintain environmental programs relevant to semiconductor manufacturing, including: Hazardous waste management Air permitting and emissions controls (e.g., scrubbers, abatement systems) Wastewater and industrial pretreatment programs Stormwater pollution prevention
  • Support environmental audits, inspections, and regulatory reporting activities; interface with regulatory agencies as required.
  • Support site sustainability initiatives by driving resource efficiency and impact reduction across energy, water, waste, recycling, and emissions, including tracking performance, supporting reduction projects, and aligning site activities with corporate sustainability and ESG goals.
  • Provide environmental subject-matter expertise for fab operations, process engineering, facilities, and equipment teams.
  • Review and approve new processes, chemical introductions, and equipment installations for environmental impact and regulatory compliance.
  • Support management of hazardous materials and specialty gases common to semiconductor manufacturing (e.g., acids, solvents, dopant gases).
  • Identify environmental risks and recommend practical mitigation measures within high-volume, high-reliability manufacturing environments.
  • Conduct environmental impact assessments, root-cause investigations, and corrective action planning related to incidents or non-compliance.
  • Analyze environmental performance data and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop, maintain, and update environmental procedures, work instructions, and technical documentation.
  • Support delivery of environmental training to operations, engineering, and facilities teams.
  • Contribute to internal EHS management systems (e.g., ISO 14001 or equivalent).
  • Partner cross-functionally with Facilities, Manufacturing, Process Engineering, Supply Chain, and Corporate EHS.
  • Participate in site sustainability goals and waste reduction initiatives.
  • Serve as an environmental technical resource for projects and operational changes.
