This position entails professional work in the Environmental Public Health Division of the Alachua County Health Department. These duties require that a valid Florida Driver’s License be maintained. Previous OSTDS experience and OSTDS Certification are required. The incumbent in this position is considered to have regulatory responsibilities and is subject to the provisions of Chapter 60L-36, F.A.C. The incumbent of this position will come to work and exhibit an attitude of friendliness and eager customer service towards all clients and act respectfully and courteously to fellow employees and clients. Responsibilities and duties will be as follows: Onsite Sewage Treatment and Disposal Systems (OSTDS). Responsible for field work and office duties related to the OSTDS program in Alachua, Bradford, and Union Counties. Conducts surveys and soil profiles for the onsite sewage treatment & disposal program. Inspects all phases of OSTDS installation and is responsible for identifying discrepancies. Follows up on failed inspections to ensure corrections are made and compliance is achieved. Inspects and permits licensed septic tank contractors, septage pump trucks, and Temporary Toilet service vehicles and storage yards. Responsible for accuracy, neatness and completeness when using required OSTDS forms. Performs other required or requested work in the OSTDS program including Private Provider application and inspection reviews and assisting with processing applications for variance. Participates in OSTDS training and remain proficient in all sections of 62-6, Florida Administrative Code, 381 Florida Statute, and Environmental Health Program Manual 150-4. Maintains OSTDS Certified Environmental Health Professional certification. Investigates and inspects all sites that are reported to be in violation of 62-6, Florida Administrative Code. Performs site inspections of regulated facilities to ensure compliance with regulations. Investigates and inspects all sites that are creating a sanitary nuisance and initiate enforcement action when applicable. Communicate with the public in a clear, concise, understandable, tactful and professional manner. Review designs of proposed facilities to determine compliance with the department rules and regulations. Provides accurate written reports as required and participates in hearings and court cases as required. Initiates enforcement actions by drafting non-compliance and warning letters and assisting with other enforcement documents. Performs special projects, surveys, visits and reports for the Environmental Public Health Manager. Develop written correspondence and reports as required and necessary. Performs other related work (field and office) as required. Maintains assigned vehicle/equipment in a clean and serviceable condition.
