About The Position

Environmental Services Workers perform cleaning duties, including floor finishing in Zoo buildings and the grounds. This role will set up and break down furniture for both internal and external events in the Zoo’s rental areas. There are two openings available for 1st shift (7 AM – 3:30 PM), and one available for 2nd shift (3:30 PM – 12 AM). Weekend availability is required for both shifts.

Requirements

  • Current resident of Wisconsin.
  • Possession of a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License, able to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Possession of a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of all related computer and software applications, such as word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Willing and able to work weekends.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) or more years of Institutional Cleaning experience.

Responsibilities

  • Work independently or with a team to perform a variety of cleaning duties in public and office areas at the Milwaukee County Zoo. Items include but are not limited to: restocking, emptying the trash, and cleaning bathrooms, windows, ledges, stairways, railings, furniture, signs, or play equipment.
  • Follow work orders by setting up chairs, tables, risers, stages, and podiums for internal and external events held at the Zoo. Ensure the space meets the needs of the customer as outlined in the work order.
  • Sweep, mop, wax, and buff all hard surface floors. Vacuum and extract carpeted floors.
  • Train seasonal Zoo Workers how to correctly use equipment, how and what to clean, as well as what products to use.
  • Lock buildings if working second shift, unlock doors as needed during the day shift.
  • May be asked to assist the Night Keeper in emergencies.
  • May be asked to assist the grounds department with snow removal and salting walks when needed.
  • All other duties as assigned.
