Your Opportunity An opportunity exists for a highly motivated, personable, and organized undergraduate student majoring in Wildlife Ecology, Ecology, Wetland Science, Soil Science, Botany, Environmental Science or a related major. As an emerging professional, you will be working with a multi-disciplinary team in the office and at project site locations. Main responsibilities include shadowing or assisting field staff with a variety of environmental surveys (i.e. wetland delineations, rare plant surveys, bat acoustic surveys, bird surveys, aquatic surveys). This position will be based out of our Mount Laurel, NJ office. You will work directly with Stantec’s scientists, field team leads, and technicians, in addition to being assigned a mentor who will work one-on-one with you. Learning begins in the classroom but there’s no better place to gain real-world experience than with Stantec. Interns are an integral part of our teams, working to solve some of the world's most complex challenges. As an intern, you’ll work alongside our experienced practitioners and with our clients and communities. This hands-on experience will equip you with practical skills, build your network, and provide opportunities that set you up for success. Qualifications Your Key Responsibilities Conduct field data collection, entry, report preparation and production, and quality review Execute field work independently and safely Communicate regularly with your assigned mentor and field team lead(s) Comply with field safety and security protocols Assist with office administration tasks for field staff Your Capabilities and Credentials Proven technical, communication, and organizational skills Proficient in MS Office applications Ability to endure long days of physically and mentally challenging field work Ability to walk long distances on flat, uneven ground Ability to work safely in poor weather conditions Possess a positive solutions-oriented attitude Strong collaboration skills and ability to work with a team Ability to work in a dynamic environment Strong work ethics and integrity Sense of humor and desire for team success Good driving record and valid driver’s license Ability to navigate on the road and in the field in remote areas Education and Experience Enrolled in an accredited University or College and perusing a degree in Wildlife Ecology, Ecology, Wetland Science, Soil Science, Botany, or Environmental Science (or related field) A minimum of 4 undergraduate semesters in one of the above majors Demonstrated experience in applied field ecology Experience with MS office applications (Outlook, Excel, Access, and Word) Northeast plant identification skills preferred Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
