About The Position

The Environmental Services Floor Care Technician performs environmental services floor care work in a healthcare setting with a high priority placed on customer service and will interact with patients, staff, and the public on a daily basis. Employees will perform floor care and project routines in a healthcare environment setting to include but not limited to hard surface floor maintenance and refinishing, and carpet care procedures such as vacuuming, spot cleaning, shampooing, and extraction. Furniture cleaning such as vacuuming, spot cleaning, shampooing, extraction, and other duties as assigned. Cleaning will be performed in patient care areas, restrooms, specialized procedure areas, public areas, offices, clinics, and other ancillary areas. Employees will handle soiled linen and regular and medical waste. Employees will work in areas where they will follow infection control and PPE procedures/guidelines. Employees will work in sensitive areas where the utmost privacy and confidentially must be maintained under HIPAA guidelines. Employees will maintain a high level of cleanliness and safety in their assignments and will receive specific training with regard to a healthcare environment. Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired.
  • One (1) year of experience in environmental services.
  • Willingness to learn for a promotion.
  • Significant work experience in handling various floor maintenance processes including stripping, and refinishing floors, burnishing floors, shampooing or extracting carpets, and the operations of various floor machines including buffers, burnishers, scrubbers, and extractors.
  • Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with patients, staff, and the public on a daily basis.
  • Perform floor care and project routines in a healthcare environment setting to include hard surface floor maintenance and refinishing, and carpet care procedures such as vacuuming, spot cleaning, shampooing, and extraction.
  • Perform furniture cleaning such as vacuuming, spot cleaning, shampooing, extraction, and other duties as assigned.
  • Perform cleaning in patient care areas, restrooms, specialized procedure areas, public areas, offices, clinics, and other ancillary areas.
  • Handle soiled linen and regular and medical waste.
  • Follow infection control and PPE procedures/guidelines.
  • Maintain the utmost privacy and confidentiality under HIPAA guidelines.
  • Maintain a high level of cleanliness and safety in assignments.
  • Receive specific training with regard to a healthcare environment.
  • Work with medical staff, other ancillary professional staff, departmental service staff, patients, visitors, and the general public with a high degree of professionalism focused on customer satisfaction.
  • Use proper scripting while in contact with patients, family, and guests.
  • Greet people with a smile and refrain from negative talk and public venting at all times.
  • Follow the direction of the Environmental Services management team concerning work assignments, workloads, and areas needing improvement.
  • Maintain proficiency in routine and periodic maintenance tasks to care for various hard floor surfaces including vinyl resilient tile and flooring, terrazzo, wood, and concrete.
  • Follow established procedures according to the type and condition of the hard floor surface, including sweeping, dust mopping, spot mopping, damp mopping, auto-scrubbing, robotic scrubbing, wet-stripping, floor finish, and burnishing hard floor surfaces.
  • Clean various types of carpet and upholstery including vacuuming, spot cleaning, shampooing, and extraction.
  • Follow established procedures for carpet and upholstery, including pre-spraying, identifying and removing spots, removing gum, and use of extraction cleaning equipment.
  • Be proficient in the proper use of chemicals and their dilution rates.
  • Complete upkeep projects including changing cubicle curtains and drapes, cleaning light fixtures and vents, cleaning occupied and discharged patient rooms, wall washing, transporting regular and medical waste, and other duties as assigned.
  • Transport equipment within the facility to the job site.
  • Maintain equipment in a safe and clean condition.
  • Maintain an awareness of surroundings and people ensuring movement of equipment occurs in a safe and friendly manner.
  • Remove and replace furniture and equipment as necessary.
  • Follow proper infection control guidelines for the cleaning and disinfection of areas assigned.
  • Follow all body substance precautions and PPE guidelines where necessary.
  • Handle soiled linen, regular waste, and medical waste following all precautions required for personal safety and the safety of others.
  • Perform health care cleaning tasks requiring standing on stepladders and or ladders and follow all safety requirements at all times.
  • Follow all hospital guidelines including for body substance precautions and PPE use when working around patients, in isolation areas, and when handling soiled materials.
  • Follow proper hand washing protocols at all times.
  • Maintain and operate equipment safely.
  • Keep equipment in good working order and report any safety issues immediately.
  • Keep equipment clean, tidy, and in good working condition, and clean all used equipment before the end of the shift.
  • Maintain equipment supply room in a clean and orderly fashion.
  • May complete unit/department-specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.
