About The Position

MercyOne Clinton Medical Center is a Catholic, not-for-profit, full-service community health system serving counties in eastern Iowa and western Illinois. With approximately 50,000 patient admissions every year, MercyOne Clinton operates 163 licensed beds and has a staff of more than 800 employees. The mission of MercyOne is to improve the health of its communities. As an Environmental Service Worker, you will be responsible for cleaning various areas within the medical center, including client rooms, nursing units, special care units, nursing stations, lounges, lavatories, bathrooms, offices, and other assigned areas. The role focuses on maintaining a clean, infection-controlled environment, using correct cleaning chemicals, and handling property with caution. The position involves assisting with patient care as needed and performing unit-specific or special cleaning procedures. The ages served range from newborn to adult.

Requirements

  • Basic reading, writing and mathematics normally acquired through an elementary level of education is required in order to measure and prepare cleaning compounds, read directions, and apply cleaning chemicals in a safe manner
  • Must have manual dexterity
  • Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment
  • Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission and vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health

Nice To Haves

  • Housekeeping experience is preferred
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred

Responsibilities

  • Clean client rooms, nursing units, special care units, nursing stations, lounges, lavatories, bathrooms, offices, and all other areas assigned
  • Maintain a clean, infection-controlled environment
  • Use the correct cleaning chemicals for the surface being cleaned in order to prevent permanent damage to all fixtures and equipment
  • Handle any patients' valuables or health system property that must be moved in order to clean any area with caution
  • Assist with patient care as needed
  • Understand and perform unit specific or special cleaning procedures
  • Clean isolation areas
