About The Position

Are you looking to be a part of a dynamic team of conservation-minded scientists working to protect fish and wildlife resources in the coniferous forests of the Sierra Nevada (covering counties: Plumas, Butte, Sierra, Yuba, Nevada, Placer, El Dorado, Alpine, Amador and Calaveras), or the Coastal Mountain Range in Lake County? The Department of Fish and Wildlife's Timberland Conservation and Fire Resiliency Program is seeking a motivated professional to work as an Environmental Scientist reviewing and evaluating Timber Harvest Plans,Timber Emergencies and Exemptions, and Vegetation Management Plans. This position also works in close collaboration with other Environmental Scientists and Senior Environmental Scientists, and with other state agencies as part of an interdisciplinary review team and may act as the staff lead and may provide consultative advice when working with applicants, local, state and federal agencies, stakeholders, and the general public. Under the close supervision of a Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory), and as a member of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife's (Department) North Central Region (Region 2) Timberland Conservation and Fire Resiliency Program, the incumbent is responsible for conducting identified activities related to the Forest Practice Rules, the Department's Lake and Streambed Alteration Program (LSA), the California Endangered Species Act (CESA), the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), and other laws, regulations, and Department policies, guidelines, and procedures pertaining to the protection of biological resources. The incumbent represents the Region and may act as the staff lead and provide consultative advice when working with applicants, local, state, and federal agencies, stakeholders, and the general public. Public contacts made in the course of this work are sensitive and involve a wide variety of special interest groups.

Requirements

  • This position requires possession of a valid Class C Driver's License.
  • Must maintain a clean driving record.
  • The selected candidate may be required to provide a photocopy (front and back) of the license: Name as stated on the license, issuing state, DL #, Class, expiration.
