About The Position

Anchor QEA is seeking a full-time environmental scientist or engineer in Syracuse, NY to support our local and regional teams with data collection, data management, data analysis, contaminated media investigations including both in-water and upland sites, and modeling. The applicant will have 3 to 8 years of experience in working on projects involving site investigation (both in-field and in-office planning) and environmental data analysis and will have a demonstrated track record of excellence in verbal and written communications with a variety of audiences. We are interested in a candidate that has the capacity to grow and is a quick learner, detail-oriented, and a committed team player.

Requirements

  • S. or M.S. degree in geology, environmental science, environmental engineering, toxicology, or related field.
  • 3 to 8 years of professional experience.
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently or collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team
  • Strong task management skills for multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Experience working on projects involving contaminated sediments and/or soils.
  • Strong understanding of environmental laboratory methods and interpretation of environmental data.
  • Experience with Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) regulations and application to various stages of an environmental investigation project.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (including MS Excel).
  • Critical thinking and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certification, or willingness to be trained.
  • Familiarity with operation of sediment sampling equipment, such as vibracore and/or grab samplers.
  • Trailer and operate a variety of vessels including small jon boats, skiffs, and pontoon boats as necessary to collect field data.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working on multi-office and/or multi-consultant teams preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and participate in field programs to collect water, sediment, soils, and biota data to support site investigations
  • Read, understand, and abide by Health and Safety Plans and contribute to a culture of safety
  • Prepare and/or oversee analytical data analysis
  • Develop site investigation cost estimates.
  • Author technical documents such as sampling and analysis plans, health and safety plans, remedial investigations, scopes of work, Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, and reports.
  • Communicate with other project team members including internal staff and external partners (e.g., laboratories, subcontractors, teaming partners).
  • Mentor and train junior staff.
  • Follow Anchor QEA policies and procedures including, but not limited to, environmental health and safety, quality assurance, and quality control
  • Travel to support projects and field work up to 25% of time.
