About The Position

SCS Engineers is looking for a summer 2026 intern for our Fredericksburg or Winchester, VA office. This opportunity offers valuable hands-on experience in both technical and environmental business operations through a diverse range of client projects while giving you the chance to explore the beginnings of your own career path. As an intern, you’ll work alongside experienced professionals on projects centered around various aspects of environmental monitoring, assessment, and remediation projects. You will typically work 40 hours per week with hands-on learning experience in the field at least 50% of the time.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in geology, hydrogeology, soil science, environmental science, environmental or geological engineering and graduating by June 2028 required.
  • Candidates going into senior year are preferred.
  • Must be willing to live in the Fredericksburg or Winchester area for Summer 2026 (housing will not be provided).
  • A valid driver’s license with a driving record in good standing required.
  • Ability to travel overnight for work outside of the SCS office required.

Nice To Haves

  • ArcGIS and/or AutoCAD experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Record data during field work, including but not limited to soil characteristics, lithology, groundwater or surface water data, photographs, or summaries of visual observations through photograph and written field logs in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Collect samples from hazardous and non-hazardous sites, including soil, air, surface water, and groundwater.
  • Laboratory data management and review.
  • Prepare environmental monitoring reports, including tabulated data, charts, graphs, sketches, statistical analysis, and/or figures.
  • Prepare reports such as stormwater and groundwater compliance reports.
  • Participate in health and safety training as required.
