About The Position

WSP USA, Inc. currently has an opportunity for a full-time Environmental Science Intern – Summer 2026 to work out of our Portland, ME office. Interns will perform fieldwork in Maine and surrounding states. This internship will be part of the WSP Summer Internship Program. As a summer intern, you have the opportunity to participate in our 12-week program scheduled to start on May 18th, 2026. The individual start date of the internship may be flexible. Located in Portland, Maine, WSP offers the technical challenges of projects located throughout the US and around the world. Our team takes pride in maintaining a close-knit environment, while also having the structure, resources and benefits of a large international organization. Interns will work with a multi-disciplinary project team providing field sampling methodology, technical documentation, and data management. This internship will provide necessary career skills and required regulatory training in the environmental consulting industry paving the way for rapid job placement upon graduation. The key elements we seek from students are enthusiasm, good character, technical competency, self-motivation and the ability to work both independently and as a team. Your Impact : The position is approximately 50% field work and 50% office work in support of project sites in Maine and New Hampshire. Field activities include logging soil borings, oversight of groundwater monitoring well installations and collecting soil, groundwater, soil vapor, air, surface water and sediment samples as well as documenting field activities Office activities include analysis and interpretation of analytical results and the preparation of field summary reports under the supervision of the Field Lead or a Senior Scientist. Will travel to project sites in Northeast and surrounding states; approximately 50% overnight travel. Abide by WSP’s safety conscious culture. Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Please note that there is no relocation or housing assistance associated with this internship.

Requirements

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Geology, or related, Undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2026 or later.
  • Must be 18 or older.
  • Must be a self-starter with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with computer skills for database work and proficiency in MS Office.
  • Flexible to work longer field days as required.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites in Maine and surrounding states; approximately 50% overnight travel depending on home location.
  • Must pass drug test, physical, background check and have a satisfactory driving record and vehicle driver’s license in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship

  • OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour certification. WSP will provide the training opportunity, as needed for qualified candidates.
