About The Position

The Environmental Safety Specialist is responsible for providing support to Helena field teams by making sure that company policies and procedures are followed correctly and that Helena complies with all state and federal safety and environmental rules and regulations. This position also travels to branch locations to assist with regulatory compliance issues related to safety, environment, transportation and homeland security.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Attending or completing 24-hour training in hazardous waste operation and emergency response (requires an additional eight-hour session refresher course) is required.
  • Presentation skills and the ability to speak to large groups are required.
  • Organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Project management and negotiating skills.
  • Computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office are required.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license is required to drive a company vehicle. Must be able to meet all company requirements to drive a Helena vehicle.
  • Travel by various means up to 50% of the time is required.
  • Ability to read, write and speak in English is required.
  • Successful completion of a drug test and background check is required for all positions at Helena.

  • Technical degree is preferred.
  • Communicating in Spanish is a valuable skill at Helena.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a consultant to field operations by being available to answer questions about regulatory compliance
  • Serves as a liaison between the field and the corporate technical services teams to strengthen location compliance with government regulations and company policies.
  • Travels to field locations approximately 50 percent of the time to interact with those teams.
  • Interprets new regulations and assesses the impact to Helena operation
  • Assists the internal audit department in understanding the applicability of various regulations to specific operations.
  • Obtains various regulatory permits and licenses as
  • Prepares annual regulatory update training sessions, including developing curriculum based on timely topics.
  • Develops and conducts regular and specific training for branch teams on an on-going basis in addition to annual training.
  • Provides technical and administrative support during emergencies, such as providing SDS to responders, activating emergency contractors and acting as a liaison between emergency responders, government agencies and Helena leadership.'
  • May be required to drive a company vehicle.
  • Provides excellent customer service to all internal and external customers.
  • Other work-related duties as assigned by your leader.
