About The Position

Environmental Restoration Specialist BB&E is a full service civil and environmental engineering and consulting firm, headquartered in Northville, Michigan, which services both the Federal and Industrial sectors throughout the United States. BB&E team members provide Environmental Consulting, Facilities Engineering and Program/Project Management Services to Federal and private sectors. Position Summary BB&E is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Environmental Restoration Specialist to join our team supporting our NASA Environmental Services contract at Ames Research Center in Mountain View, CA.

Requirements

  • Ability to successfully pass a federal agency background check is required
  • Ability to collect and organize project data, conduct analysis, prepare reports, and provide recommendations without assistance
  • Experience with operation and maintenance of groundwater remediation systems.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
  • Software: Proficiency using MS Office software including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is required
  • Self-Starter: Highly motivated, with the ability to problem solve and function as a member of a team
  • Experience: 10 years’ related experience as an environmental technician, including managing and overseeing subcontractors in multimedia investigations, is required
  • Experience: 5-10 years’ related experience providing O&M activities on groundwater and air sparge/vapor extraction remediation systems, is required
  • Certification and Training: Hight school diploma and 40-hour HAZWOPER certification is required.
  • Education: A high school diploma is required
  • Must be able to walk, sit, and/or stand for extended periods for multiple days/weeks
  • Able to operate office equipment, including computer, copy machine, phone, etc.
  • Capable of light lifting, up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to work both indoor/outdoor (with exposure to the elements)
  • Able to walk/climb/knee/crouch and reach
  • Able to work on rough terrain when necessary
  • Able to work in confined spaces and/or heights
  • Able to wear the required PPE, minimally use gloves, a hard hat, a respirator, and steel-toe boots that may be in combination with protective clothing/suits, a respirator, and/or a fall restraint/recovery harness

Nice To Haves

  • Field work experience (e.g., soil, sediment, surface water, storm water, soil vapor, and groundwater sampling including experience with PFAS) is preferred
  • Experience with treatment system software, including Wonderware, is preferred.
  • College studies including environmental science and chemistry is highly recommended.

Responsibilities

  • Organize, schedule, and provide field management of groundwater sampling and monitoring program and soil sampling projects at Ames Research Center.
  • Manage the operations and provide routine maintenance of two groundwater treatment systems (filters, air compressors, AOP components)
  • Troubleshoot treatment system and extraction well malfunctions.
  • Schedule non-routine maintenance and repair activities with subcontractors and provide subcontractor oversight .
  • Manage NPDES sampling program associated with the two groundwater treatment systems.
  • Assist with the preparation of Operation and Maintenance Plans and NPDES Self-Monitoring Reports
  • Perform daily, weekly and monthly inspections and reporting for groundwater treatment systems
  • Provide site investigation support, including Phase II ESAs, preliminary assessments, site inspections, vapor intrusion investigations, and remedial investigations
  • Maintain and provide calibration of environmental equipment.
  • Track, document, and make decisions during field activities
  • Perform assigned work in accordance with project schedules, plans, and budgets
  • Occasional off-hour and weekend work is required to respond to treatment system shutdowns and alarms.
