About The Position

Timmons Group is currently accepting applications for an entry-level Environmental Permitting Specialist to join our Renewable Energy team in our Richmond, Virginia office. This position supports the permitting and planning of renewable energy facilities by providing GIS analysis, exhibit preparation, technical documentation, and regulatory research. The Environmental Permitting Specialist will work collaboratively with planners, engineers, and environmental scientists to deliver technically sound, high-quality products that meet both internal standards and external client and agency requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Planning, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS Pro and introductory experience with GIS analysis, mapping, and data visualization
  • Exposure to AutoCAD or willingness to learn plan preparation workflows
  • Understanding of environmental sciences and basic knowledge of permitting or regulatory processes
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate technical information through writing and graphics
  • Strong research, data interpretation, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize assignments in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and self-directed
  • Eagerness to learn and grow within the renewable energy and environmental permitting field
  • Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively

Responsibilities

  • Support renewable energy permitting efforts at the local, state, and federal levels
  • Assemble, analyze, and interpret GIS data to perform environmental constraints and critical-issues analyses
  • Prepare maps, figures, exhibits, and plan sets for permitting applications using ArcGIS and AutoCAD
  • Assist with drafting technical reports, memoranda, and environmental documentation in clear and concise language
  • Conduct research related to environmental science, land use, and regulatory requirements
  • Organize data and maintain GIS files to ensure accuracy, consistency, and documentation
  • Coordinate with project team members to meet project schedules and deliverables
