About The Position

Want to see your work make a real difference? Our Environmental Permitting Team sits at the intersection of engineering sustainability and real-world problem solving. You will help bring infrastructure projects to life through the New England communities while protecting natural resources and navigating environmental regulations. BETA Group, Inc. is looking for a hands-on Environmental Intern looking to learn how projects move from concept to construction, working alongside experienced engineers and environmental professionals.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in environmental engineering, environmental science, geology or related field
  • Understanding of general environmental assessment and response actions
  • Proficient in the use of current technology (i.e., tablets, smart phones, laptops, etc.)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong technical aptitude with an eagerness to learn
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Must be able to collect field data and measurements including but not limited to plant inventories and stream widths
  • Must be able to lift/move objects weighing up to 40 pounds
  • Must be able to perform field work in both hot and cold weather (rain and/or snow)
  • Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Responsibilities

  • Help secure environmental permits that allow civil engineering projects to proceed to construction
  • Contribute to permit applications and environmental review documentation
  • Participate in site visits for construction compliance, wetland delineations, and stream assessments
  • Learn how environmental regulations shape infrastructure and development projects
  • Track permit approvals and support project schedules
  • Apply classroom knowledge to real-world environmental challenges
  • Support a variety of active projects across both design and construction phases
  • Contribute to project tasks and deliverables while developing new technical skills
  • Collaborate with and learn from experienced engineers, planners, and environmental staff
  • Take initiative in your learning by asking thoughtful questions and actively engaging with your team
