About The Position

Freese and Nichols is excited to open an internship in Environmental Science internship in Austin, TX for summer 2026! After maintaining our status as a Top 100 Internship Program given by Yello and WayUp we hope to make summer 2026 a great one! What will your summer look like? Working under professional environmental scientists, you will be working on projects that impact your surrounding communities and beyond. While you will be working in on the environmental science team, you will have the opportunity to learn about our other practice areas so you can learn about the business as a whole. You would support projects that involve flood risk reduction, restoration, remediation, water supply and infrastructure, and roadway improvements, for example. Of course, an internship is a large part of learning more about what you can do with your degree, but we also want to give you the opportunity to expand your network through connections with the young professionals employee resource group Rise & Thrive who will host events across the company over the summer. What does the role look like? This internship will require you to be in office each day to help build connections with your group, fellow interns, and others. Relocation or housing stipends will NOT be provided for internships. At the heart of our culture is our LEADS values (Learn continuously, Engage as family, Act with integrity, Deliver quality, and Serve always). Each year, our employee engagement survey confirms that our leaders and our employees live our values. We strive to be the firm of choice for clients and employees through innovative approaches, practical results, and outstanding service. For more than 130 years, we have been planning and designing the infrastructure our communities need: developing water supplies, designing roadways and bridges, preparing for natural disasters, and much more. Besides our comprehensive benefits package (see more at Benefits That Work for You), we offer paid overtime for salaried employees, an annual bonus, and access to company cabins in Red River, New Mexico and Banner Elk, North Carolina. We are proud of our flexible work environment which includes a hybrid schedule with up to 40% of remote work, and an alternative work schedule program which provides a day off every other Friday. Join our team of 1,300+ employees as we grow from Virginia to Colorado. Learn more about working here at Working at Freese and Nichols.
