About The Position

GAI Consultants is seeking an Environmental Manager to provide advanced experience and team leadership in project siting, environmental studies and related environmental permitting and consultations. The successful candidate’s primary responsibility will be to provide project and task leadership for siting, permitting, and documentation efforts relating to electric transmission projects in North Carolina. The Environmental Manager will also be responsible for project budget and schedule management, staff management, coordination with clients and regulatory agencies, business development, proposal preparation and cost estimating, and quality control reviews.

Responsibilities

  • Lead electric transmission line siting investigation tasks and prepare siting documentation for regulatory review.
  • Lead environmental resource investigation tasks and prepare permit applications and associated environmental reports/consultations. Permitting experience in North Carolina is essential.
  • Manage budgets, scopes, and schedules and quality of deliverables for specific tasks or overall projects.
  • Lead coordination with clients and regulatory agencies.
  • Manage technical investigations including, but not limited to, wetland and stream delineations, endangered species surveys, environmental inspections, and compliance monitoring.
  • Conduct business development activities with new and existing clients.
  • Prepare proposals and cost estimates.
  • Supervision of technical staff and provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Must be able to travel, including overnight trips. Travel is estimated to occur monthly but may vary. Travel to clients, projects, and meetings in the mid-Atlantic (up to 10%).
  • Lead implementation and compliance with safety protocols and procedures.
  • Continues to show progress in oversight and coordination of project tasks

  • Provides opportunities to junior staff for becoming familiar with task management and financials
  • Working knowledge of project contract documents.
  • Recruiting and retaining staff.

  • Capable of managing project tasks.
  • Begins to initiate and build client relationships; provide oversight and responsible for reviewing and approving all scopes; budgets; and schedules for all tasks of the overall projects; works with Task Managers to complete their assigned tasks; maintaining GAI’s procedures and protocols; responsible for all aspects of financials on projects.
  • Serves as the leader of the environmental scope of project; receives administrative support and direction from Business Sector Leaders and higher-level officials of the Company.
  • Continues to manage staff with diverse skills and has a focus on supporting career path and technical growth.
