About The Position

This is an internship position with the potential to transition into a full-time Environmental Scientist I position. The Environmental Intern will gain hands-on experience in a professional work environment, supporting multiple departments while contributing to a variety of environmental projects. Under the guidance of senior staff, the intern will provide technical and administrative support on projects involving environmental compliance, field investigations, site characterization, data analysis, hazard assessments (including lead and asbestos), solid waste surveys, risk assessments, and Phase I/II environmental site assessments. Projects may serve military, federal, state, county, and private sector clients.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate program in Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related scientific field. (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Natural Resource Management).
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Fieldwork experience is preferred, including but not limited to geophysical investigations (ERT, towed array, etc.), dye tracer water sampling, and soil vapor sampling.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly in Excel pivot tables or similar data analysis/visualization tools is preferred.
  • Project management coursework or experience is preferred.
  • Technical writing coursework or experience is preferred
  • Previous experience in customer service or administrative support preferred.
  • Familiarity with AI environmental tools is preferred.
  • Community and cultural relations coursework or experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support on a variety of environmental projects under supervision of senior staff.
  • Collect, evaluate, and analyze project-specific data.
  • Assist in preparing reports and deliverables, ensuring accuracy and quality.
  • Apply standard scientific techniques and procedures in both field and office settings.
  • Support fieldwork activities, including completing forms and documentation with attention to detail.
  • Follow direction from field supervisors and project managers to meet project goals and deadlines.
  • Learn and apply environmental regulations, compliance requirements, and scientific principles.
  • Assist with scheduling, coordination, and project tracking as needed.
  • Support short-term organizational or administrative projects within the division.
  • Perform general administrative and office duties as required.
