Join our team and discover why we are a top veteran employer and Certified Great Place to Work™ ASRC Federal Facilities Logistics, a subsidiary of ASRC Federal, is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist at Wallops Flight Facility at Wallops Island, Virginia (WFF). This role is in support of the NASA Repair, Operations, Maintenance and Engineering (ROME) program. WFF also houses the U.S. Navy as a tenant, and those facility needs are included under the ROME contract.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree + 2-4 years of experience in a related or applicable field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to pass background requirements for site access

Responsibilities

  • Interprets, recommends, and complies with environmental, health and safety regulations and/or company policies.
  • Assists in planning for changes in physical facilities to meet new environmental requirements.
  • Finds, evaluates, and prepares contracts for properly licensed hazardous waste disposal firms and monitors waste handling as well as organizes and equips spill-control teams.
  • Writes and updates environmental and spill-control manuals and procedures and prepares environmental impact statements and applies for all new permits and renewals.
  • Provides input to federal and state regulators through trade associations and industry groups for the writing and revision of regulations.
  • Delivers improvements of processes, systems, or products. Interfaces with internal and external parties.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce safety policies and procedures specific to commercial environments.
  • Ensure consistent safety practices across field operations.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments to identify hazards (e.g., electrical risks, working at heights, confined spaces).
  • Perform safety training programs for staff, including OSHA compliance, electrical safety, and Fall protection.
  • Investigate incidents, near-misses, and accidents.
  • Collaborate with project managers and field supervisors to integrate safety measures into project planning and execution.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of safety audits, training, and certifications.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through regular communication, toolbox talks, and safety meetings.
