About The Position

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist will ensure all Safety, Health and Environmental related activities are carried out in accordance with Company policies and procedures and to ensure compliance. The EHS Specialist is responsible for initiating and implementing safety and wellness programs while promoting an Elite Associate-led culture. The EHS specialist will support the Carolina Handling in facilitating information to meet customer request requirements. This position will encompass a wide array of activities and require attention to detail.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree: Environmental, Health and Safety or similar preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in an environmental, health or safety role
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills working with all levels of employees, customers, and management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office, MS Outlook, and MS Teams
  • Ability to facilitate training for all levels of employees, supervision, and management
  • Self-starter with ability to follow-up and follow through and meet deadlines
  • Able to work independently, as well as collaboratively within a team environment
  • Presents a solution driven mindset
  • Experience within large warehouse, logistics, manufacturing operations
  • Understanding of OSHA regulatory standards, consensus standards, lean principles, safety risk assessments, risk management and environmental programs
  • Frequent interface with internal and external customers in person, over the phone and email
  • Regular exposure to warehouse and shop environment with exposure to hot and cold temperatures and chemicals
  • Overnight travel at short notice may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead implementation of injury prevention and workplace wellness initiatives
  • Provide proactive first aid support for minor injuries and musculoskeletal discomfort within OSHA-defined scope; escalate care when appropriate
  • Support evaluation of reported injuries and assist in determining work-relatedness
  • Partner with leadership and HR to reduce incident frequency and severity
  • Support workers’ compensation claims from initiation through closure in collaboration with HR and insurance carriers
  • Assist with coordinating medical care and return-to-work programs
  • Monitor and track injury cases to ensure timely resolution and proper documentation
  • Develop and lead a comprehensive ergonomic program to reduce workplace risk factors
  • Conduct ergonomic assessments (task analysis, posture analysis, risk identification) across shop, office, and field environments
  • Design and implement practical ergonomic solutions in collaboration with employees and leadership
  • Deliver ergonomic education and preventative strategies to associates
  • Educate associates on injury prevention, safety practices, and health awareness
  • Design and implement wellness initiatives (e.g., stretch & flex programs, early intervention strategies)
  • Ensure completion of required safety and regulatory training programs
  • Track, analyze, and report EHS metrics to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities
  • Maintain OSHA logs and ensure compliance with recordkeeping standards
  • Prepare monthly and annual EHS reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Conduct facility audits and inspections; document findings and recommend corrective actions
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including Lean/Safety events
  • Conduct root cause analysis for incidents, injuries, and near-misses
  • Support safe work planning for field operations and customer job sites
  • Perform risk assessments and partner with leadership to implement mitigation strategies
  • Partner with HR on safety, benefits, and wellness initiatives
  • Collaborate with Procurement to maintain appropriate safety supplies and PPE
  • Manage contractor and supplier safety compliance through platforms (e.g., ISN, Avetta)
  • Provide safety updates and insights during leadership meetings
