Job Summary: The environmental health safety (EHS) specialist is responsible for helping to develop and implement environmental, health and safety programs for the company's workforce and overall work environment. Their responsibilities revolve around conducting regular inspections to ensure compliance with environmental, health and safety regulations, devising preventive measures, spearheading training and investigating workplace accidents and identify causes to ensure that it will not happen again. Furthermore, as part of the Groveland EH&S team, it is essential they lead and encourage the team to reach all established EH&S goals embedded in the Groveland Operations SQDIP Plan-to-Win strategies. This position has leadership responsibilities associated with implementing site EH&S policies and safety regulation and all associated activities to ensure compliance. Duties also include managing our waste management, chemical management, air emissions management and emergency management.

Requirements

  • Excellent interpersonal, influencing, verbal and written communication skills at all levels throughout the workplace.
  • Must be a self-starter and team player with a positive attitude and professional demeanor.
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Capable of interfacing with a range of departments including R&D, customer service, production, product management, sales and logistics to gather and/or communicate information to support product compliance and safety.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, related technical discipline preferred
  • 2-4 years related experience
  • Knowledgeable of federal and state environmental regulations
  • Experience with risk and statistical analysis
  • Excellent organization skills and the ability to follow-up with project completion effectively and independently.
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including telephone skills.
  • Strong grammar skills. Strong attention to detail, ability to proofread and check various documents.
  • Working knowledge of PC software Windows/Microsoft Office preferable.

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA-10 Hour Certification desired
  • Knowledge of Environmental, Health and Safety concepts a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Help manage Groveland campus cross-functional teams/committees in development and implementation of robust proactive health and safety programs.
  • Applied focus on achieving the highest levels of EH&S performance through behavior-base initiatives, auditing, mentoring and expeditiously implementing change. Be the Groveland campus EH&S subject matter expert and change agent.
  • Facilitate the Groveland campus to be a pro-active leader in Environmental, Health and Safety regulatory programs and compliance.
  • Assists in leading the Groveland campus in the development and ensures compliance with Federal, State and/or local EH&S policies, standards and procedures.
  • Participates as an evacuation emergency coordinator and first responder to medical emergencies. Additionally, updates emergency action plan as needed and ensures appropriate training is provided.
  • Assists in the management of occupational health programs related to hearing conservation, personal protection equipment (PPE) and bloodborne pathogens (First Aid Teams).
  • Maintains Lock-out, Tag-out (LOTO) program working directly with operations, maintenance and contractors.
  • Leads and supports investigation of environmental and work-related injuries in conjunction with supervisors/managers, facilitate action planning to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Maintain hazardous waste program requirements including container labeling, weekly inspections and profiling of waste streams.
  • Supports and maintains assigned responsibilities in connection to our Chesterton Quality System (CQS) EHS Program.
  • May be required to perform tests and inspections on specific company equipment.
  • Works with various departments across multiple organizational levels to support all regulatory asks.
  • Provide regulatory support by communicating emerging chemical management regulatory developments that may impact products and services.
  • Identifies, assesses and controls environmental risks.
  • Maintains all regulatory documentation.
  • Other projects as required.
