About The Position

The Specialist will assist the Environmental Health and Safety team with monitoring and coordinating programs to ensure a safe work environment for team members and customers. This role will ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental, health and safety regulations.

Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, etc.)

Nice To Haves

  • College degree in a relevant field
  • Prior knowledge of OSHA, EPA and DOT regulations
  • Prior experience with EHS programs and regulatory authorities

Responsibilities

  • Create and update Hazardous Material Inventory Statements (HMIS) and any other related materials required by local, state and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain regulatory calendar to ensure all required environmental reports and filings are submitted in a timely manner.
  • Maintain the Risk Management safety & environmental database to track regulatory activities throughout the company.
  • Provide OSHA, EPA or other regulatory agency inspection responses prior to deadlines.
  • Coordinate waste stream collections from both DC and store locations (used oil, hazardous waste, e-Waste, Retail Waste Bucket Program, etc).
  • Monitor and research store and distribution center (DC) safety and environmental programs, policies, and procedures to ensure they comply with all current environmental and safety regulations.
  • Assist stores and DC operations with environmental questions and programs (refrigerant sales, waste disposal, etc.)
  • Monitor the company-wide hazardous waste process and implement process improvement plans.
  • Supervise monthly waste pick up at distribution centers and submit required manifest reporting to state agencies.
  • Implement improvements to reduce wastes and effectively control waste disposal costs.
  • Track environmental exposures resulting from accident/loss, such as vehicle accident, floods, fires, spills, etc.
  • Support all company safety, environmental and regulatory compliance efforts.
  • Monitor all EHS programs and processes to ensure their efficient and effective usage.
  • Work with corporate management and team members in other risk management areas as assigned.
  • Process fire protection certifications, inspections and handle vendor invoices.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
