About The Position

The Environmental Health and Safety Manager acts on behalf of the company to promote the safety and professional practices and conditions that follow environmental health and safety policies and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university in Occupational Health and Safety; or five + years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of three (5) years of experience working as a dedicated safety professional.
  • Experience with handling operations and maintenance safety.
  • CHST, OHST, ASP, CSP, CSHO or equivalent certifications required.
  • OSHA 500 or 501 required.
  • The ability to travel 75% of the time between multiple job sites in the state and could be over 50% across the state of Texas.
  • Knowledge of Veregy’s services and processes is required which can be obtained through intellect, technical inclination, and dedication to gain such knowledge.
  • Knowledge (Intermediate to advanced) of various operating systems, software products (e.g. MS Office, etc.), is required.
  • Ability to speak and communicate effectively before customers and staff.
  • Ability to effectively respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers and staff.
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, both internally and externally.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently manage time / workload.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, business, professional, and technical documents.
  • Ability to write presentations, articles, routine reports, proposals, and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management and staff.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts and percentages.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and tactfully negotiate priority with end users.
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure and extra hours if needed.
  • OSHA 500 or OSHA 501.
  • CSHO, CHST, OHST, ASP, or CSP or equivalent certifications required.
  • Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the planning and implementation of safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
  • Conducts regular safety audits of construction projects. Identifies, documents, and recommends abatement of hazardous/potentially hazardous conditions. Issues reports to field superintendent and project management staff detailing hazards and abatement techniques. Follows-up with superintendents to ensure safety issues were abated in a timely manner.
  • Travels to various jobsites ensuring those on site are adhering to safety practices and wearing appropriate PPE.
  • Educates the team on safety procedures and ensures they are being followed according to Veregy Safety Policy.
  • Plans and implements safety training.
  • Analyzes accident reports and evaluates injury case studies based on available facts.
  • Must be on-call to assist with safety emergencies.
  • Works closely with the external insurance company contacts in reporting and managing safety-related claims.
  • Develops effective training methods such as digital learning, PowerPoints, classroom, skill qualifications, and on-the-job training.
  • Work with applications such as SiteDocs, SafetySkills, and LYTX.
