About The Position

Techno is seeking an experienced Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Lead to support construction activities at a major water and wastewater treatment facility in New York City. This role is focused on providing on-site safety oversight within an active, operational environment, where coordination between construction and facility operations is critical. You will serve as the primary safety presence in the field, working closely with contractors, construction management teams, and client representatives to ensure work is performed safely, in compliance with OSHA standards, and aligned with project-specific requirements. This position is ideal for a hands-on safety professional with experience in heavy civil, mechanical, or utility construction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or related field preferred
  • 5+ years of EHS experience supporting construction projects
  • Experience working on water, wastewater, utility, or public infrastructure projects strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety standards
  • Experience supporting mechanical construction, heavy equipment operations, confined space entry, and energized systems
  • OSHA 30 certification required
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to work across diverse field teams
  • Ability to work full-time on-site in an active construction and operational environment
  • Strong reporting, documentation, and organizational skills

Nice To Haves

  • CSP, CHST, CIH, or similar certifications are a plus

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day environmental health and safety activities across active construction work areas
  • Implement and enforce site-specific safety plans, environmental controls, and permit requirements
  • Conduct routine safety inspections, audits, and hazard assessments to identify and mitigate risks
  • Monitor contractor compliance with safety procedures, PPE usage, and approved work practices
  • Review job hazard analyses (JHAs), activity hazard analyses (AHAs), and method statements prior to work execution
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns, supporting root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Lead safety orientations, toolbox talks, and targeted field training sessions
  • Coordinate with project teams and client representatives to track and improve safety performance
  • Maintain accurate safety documentation including logs, reports, and compliance records
  • Support emergency preparedness efforts, including drills and response planning within an operating facility
  • Promote a strong safety culture focused on accountability, communication, and continuous improvement
