About The Position

As Apex continues to expand its satellite manufacturing footprint, we are seeking an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Program Leader to facilitate the development and execution of Environmental, Health, and Safety programs for a manufacturing facility within the City of Los Angeles. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, builds and improves EHS systems, and drive risk reduction across operations. This is an individual contributor role, exercising site-wide influence through technical expertise, regulatory authority, and cross-functional collaboration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Three to seven years of EHS experience in manufacturing, aerospace, defense, or similar industrial environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of Cal/OSHA, DTSC, CUPA, South Coast AQMD, LAFD, LASAN, and other local, state or federal regulatory authorities applicable to industrial facilities in the City of Los Angeles.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations, delivering safety training, supporting regulatory inspections, and performing compliance audits.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence without direct authority and collaborate across functional groups.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and EHS management systems.
  • Ability to work across manufacturing areas including loud, hot, cold, dusty, or wet environments.
  • Ability to use required PPE such as safety glasses, hearing protection, respirators, and protective footwear.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 40 pounds and respond to field conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certifications such as ASP, CSP, CIH, CHMM, or equivalent.
  • Experience in aerospace manufacturing or closely related regulated industries.
  • Experience with laser safety, industrial hygiene monitoring, confined space operations, or PSM-adjacent processes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, administer, and continuously improve core EHS programs including Hazard Communication, Lockout/Tagout, machine safety, ergonomics, PPE, contractor safety, and incident response.
  • Lead investigations and root cause analysis for injuries, near misses, spills, and property damage events, and track corrective actions to closure.
  • Implement and enhance routine inspections, JSAs/JHAs, and audit processes to identify hazards and drive mitigation.
  • Facilitate Safety Committee engagement and support safety culture initiatives across departments.
  • Define, verify, and support daily operational safety expectations in coordination with Operations and Facilities teams, including PPE station readiness, eyewash checks, extinguisher verifications, and general floor-level observations.
  • Develop and strengthen ergonomic assessment practices, workstation evaluations, and corrective actions to reduce strain, repetitive motion risks, and musculoskeletal injuries.
  • Develop, administer, and maintain environmental compliance processes for South Coast AQMD permitting, emissions controls, and recordkeeping.
  • Develop and maintain CUPA programs including Hazardous Materials Business Plans, hazardous waste management, universal waste, and SPCC applicability.
  • Prepare, maintain, and strengthen documentation, sampling programs, and regulatory reporting required by DTSC, Los Angeles Sanitation & Environment (LASAN), and other applicable agencies.
  • Lead continuous improvement in sustainability performance, waste minimization, and environmental metrics.
  • Support environmental monitoring programs, including air, water, wastewater, and waste characterizations, as required.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve Cal/OSHA Title 8 programs including the Injury and Illness Prevention Program, Heat Illness Prevention, ergonomics, Hazard Communication, and injury and illness recordkeeping.
  • Lead risk assessments, SOP development, and high-hazard program elements such as fall protection, confined space, Lockout/Tagout, powered industrial trucks, and machine safeguarding.
  • Design and deliver required Cal/OSHA training for production, warehouse, laboratory, and office personnel.
  • Support workers’ compensation–related safety activities including incident documentation, workplace evaluations following injuries, and modified-duty safety assessments.
  • Serve as the site EHS liaison for Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) requirements including operational permits, hazardous materials inventories, inspections, and life-safety expectations.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans, drills, and readiness processes.
  • Design, implement, and continuously improve the site EHS training curriculum.
  • Develop and maintain training records, documentation systems, and compliance calendars.
  • Provide and coordinate specialized training such as first aid, CPR/AED, spill response fundamentals, and emergency drill participation as required.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response planning for fire, spill, medical, and evacuation events.
  • Verify readiness of emergency equipment, signage, and response procedures across the site.
  • Coordinate post-incident employee care processes, including safe transport logistics or clinic coordination when required by site policy.
  • Design, implement, and continuously improve EHS management systems including audits, corrective actions, leading indicators, and performance dashboards.
  • Use data to identify trends, support decision-making, and reduce operational risk.
  • Lead or support industrial hygiene activities such as noise monitoring, air sampling, and ergonomic evaluations as needed.
  • Advance sustainability and waste-reduction initiatives aligned with corporate and site goals.
  • Partner with Facilities, Manufacturing, Engineering, HR, R&D, and QA to integrate EHS requirements into daily work practices and project planning.
  • Develop and administer contractor safety processes including prequalification, orientation, and work-specific risk reviews.
