About The Position

BASIC PURPOSE OF POSITION: Under the direction of the EH&S Supervisor, this position performs assignments for the EH&S Department, including facility inspections, incident investigations, auditing activities, and conducting training sessions. Responsibilities are largely focused on supporting compliance associated with the incumbent’s assigned area of responsibility which may include the Los Angeles Basin, Central Coast, and/or San Joaquin Valley. Incumbents must have knowledge specific to their assigned area(s) of responsibility.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in an oil and gas-related position providing the required education and training to successfully complete the essential duties of the position.
  • Two-year degree in a related field of study is preferred. Additional years of experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Technical writing skills with the ability to prepare reports and maintain records.
  • Familiarity with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, and Power Point).
  • Ability to comprehend and apply federal, state and local occupational safety and environmental requirements to our worksites.
  • Ability to conduct hazard evaluations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with personnel and contract personnel from other departments.
  • Ability to work independently and under tight deadlines and to maintain flexibility in prioritizing work responsibilities.
  • Must hold current 24/40 hour HAZWOPER and basic First Aid/CPR certificates, or secure them within 30 days of beginning the position.
  • Valid California driver’s license with a driving record deemed acceptable by the company’s auto insurance carrier.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts regular inspections of facilities and job activities for compliance with safety and environmental policies and regulations.
  • Audits activities to ensure proper job planning, securing of relevant permits, utilization of safe procedures, and appropriate use of personal protective equipment.
  • Performs regular inspections of field safety equipment including fire extinguishers; respirators; fire systems; eye wash stations; emergency response equipment; etc. and arranges for testing and repairs as necessary.
  • Conducts gas testing prior to issuance of Safe/Hot Work/Confined Space Permits and provide attendant duties as needed for Confined Space Entries.
  • Participates in and assists in developing training sessions on a variety of environmental, safety, and operational subjects.
  • Assists with creating action plans to address all gaps in the EH&S management system working directly with the Operations, Construction, and Drilling Teams.
  • Assists contractors with creating action plans for addressing gaps in their EH&S management system and documents progress in the internal database.
  • Assists in incident investigations and root cause analyses for all areas of responsibility and documents the outcomes in the department’s internal database.
  • Provides regular field representation of the EH&S Department.
  • Assists in environmental sampling when needed.
  • Participates in job planning meetings and assist in creating Sim-Op’s plans when necessary.
  • Participates in the Incident Management Team.
  • All other job-related duties as assigned.
