About The Position

The EHS Safety Specialist is responsible for ensuring that the organization adheres to environmental, health, and safety regulations and standards. This role involves developing, implementing, and monitoring EHS programs and procedures to ensure a safe and compliant workplace. The EHS Safety Specialist will conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and training sessions, and work to foster a culture of safety within the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field; certification (e.g., Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST)) preferred.
  • Proven experience in EHS management or safety roles, with a strong understanding of safety regulations and standards.
  • Excellent knowledge of EHS principles, risk assessment techniques, and emergency response procedures.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficiency in EHS management software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations and standards.
  • Monitor changes in EHS regulations and update policies and procedures accordingly.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain EHS programs and procedures to promote a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Conduct regular reviews and updates of EHS policies to ensure they meet regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Perform risk assessments and safety audits to identify potential hazards and evaluate risk levels.
  • Develop and implement strategies to mitigate identified risks and prevent accidents or incidents.
  • Design and deliver EHS training programs for employees, including safety protocols, emergency response procedures, and hazard recognition.
  • Promote safety awareness and encourage a proactive safety culture across the organization.
  • Investigate workplace incidents, accidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
  • Prepare and submit reports on incidents, safety performance, and compliance to management and regulatory agencies.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures, including evacuation plans and crisis management protocols.
  • Conduct drills and exercises to ensure preparedness for emergency situations.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of safety inspections, incident reports, training sessions, and compliance documentation.
  • Ensure proper documentation and reporting of EHS activities and performance metrics.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of EHS programs and procedures and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety performance and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including management, employees, and safety committees, to address EHS concerns and promote best practices.
  • Liaise with external agencies, such as OSHA or environmental regulatory bodies, as needed.
