Summit County Public Health (SCPH) is seeking Mosquito Control Techs to support our Environmental Health division during the mosquito control season. This is a temporary, seasonal position running May through August, with a possibility to extend to October. As a Mosquito Control Tech, you will assist in various environmental health activities, including mosquito surveillance, public education on mosquito abatement, and field inspections. This position involves both independent work and collaboration with SCPH staff to protect public health in Summit County.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license, liability insurance, and automobile availability.
  • Clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Work a set schedule that aligns with program needs.
  • Conduct mosquito abatement education for residents.
  • Read and maintain accurate maps and data for surveillance efforts.
  • Perform source reduction activities, such as removing dumped tires from ditches, swamps, and wooded areas.
  • Maintain and clean various program equipment.
  • Assist with data entry and/or research as needed.
  • Support special mosquito spray applications for parks, events, and public spaces.
  • Participate in mosquito surveillance by setting and collecting traps, identifying and counting mosquitoes.
  • Conduct larviciding inspections of mosquito breeding sites and apply pesticides if applicable.
  • Operate a truck-mounted sprayer for evening adult mosquito spray treatments up to four nights per week.
  • Comply with emergency service obligations as required by SCPH's Emergency Operations Plan.
