About The Position

Environmental Health & Safety Specialist North West Rubber Ltd., was founded in 1968 in Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, Canada. In the late ’60′s and early ’70′s, the company picked up scrap tires and buffings from the local area, ground them up, and manufactured rubber mats. These mats were purchased for use in horse and dairy stalls, ice rinks, gyms, and pick-up truck beds. Over the years, the business has grown and changed from a small, regional manufacturer of crude rubber products to a leading, global recycled rubber manufacturer. Today, North West Rubber is one of the largest rubber mat manufacturers in the world. The company owns and operates manufacturing facilities in Canada (British Columbia, Ontario, & Quebec), in the USA (Texas), and in China. Their products are distributed all over the world. We are looking for full-time permanent Environmental Health & Safety Specialist to work in our mat making facility in Houston, Texas. As the EHS Specialist, you will partner with leaders on-site to build a positive safety culture and drive our mission and values forward. You will have overall responsibility for the environmental health & safety function as it relates to the delivery and execution of environmental health & safety activities in collaboration with the on-site HR team and Corporate Safety departments. This is an on-site position reports to the Corporate Director EHS.

Requirements

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in EHS, Occupational Health and Safey
  • 2+ years of previous experience in EHS in the manufacturing sector
  • Successful completion of OSHA Safety Training Courses such as OSHA 30, 1910, 501/511, GHS and Hazard Communication, HAZWOPER.
  • Current certification in First Aid/CPR/AED.
  • Experience and a good understanding of Environmental Standards (EPA, RCRA, Tier II, County Permitting, etc.)
  • Demonstrated leadership & influencing skills.
  • Effective communication both written and verbal, including presentation skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage, prioritize and execute multiple tasks in an autonomous way.
  • Capable of being flexible with hours worked to support business needs as they arise.

Responsibilities

  • Be a constant advocate of responsible management of all health, safety and environmental issues driving a cultural change towards improved health and safety
  • In collaboration with Corporate EHS department, develop, implement and manage all safety programs, policies and procedures
  • Identifies workplace hazards through completion of risk assessments and makes recommendations to address and reduce/eliminate risks
  • Proactively identify opportunities for improvement; document and review with management team to drive actions; track and monitor all progress
  • Prepare monthly reports on safety KPI’s and review with site management
  • Collaborate in all workplace investigation and reporting of accidents, incidents and non-conformances and making recommendations for action; tracks all actions and ensures closure of action items
  • Ensure compliance with Early Safe Return to Work (ESRTW) policy and manage/support any lost time incident claims/records
  • Chair/support Joint Health and Safety committee to develop and maintain internal audit system including actions and tracking system
  • Provide EHS new hire onboarding
  • Partner with site Leadership on any permit renewals/applications for federal, state, and city operational requirements
  • Timely completion of all Government Inspection reports
  • Maintain chemical inventory & SDS access
  • Coordinate with site Leadership to continuously improve and update site’s Emergency Response Plans for the site
