About The Position

CMI is seeking a dynamic and experienced Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to lead a campus-wide EHS program for a large college in Charlotte, NC. Reporting to the Executive Director of EHS, this role will supervise a team of two EHS Specialists and oversee the implementation, management, and continuous improvement of a comprehensive EHS program that ensures regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, and a strong safety culture across all departments. This position is ideal for someone who is looking for a true 40-hour work week with a generous holiday, winter break and summer half-day Friday schedule.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field is required.
  • 5+ years of progressive EHS program management experience, preferably in a campus, healthcare, or industrial setting.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills are essential.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and project tracking tools such as Microsoft Planer or equivalent.
  • Ability to perform site inspections, including climbing ladders as needed.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist), or CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager) are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with various OSHA Standards with special focus on bloodborne pathogens, chemical hygiene/laboratory safety, hazard communication, and personal protective equipment.
  • Oversee the safety inspection and hazard mitigation processes.
  • Assist in the deployment of training modules via the Learning Management System (LMS) and ensure training compliance across campus staff.
  • Oversee and audit fire and life safety systems inspections completed by Facilities Management and assist to ensure code compliance.
  • Collaborate with Facilities Management to address identified hazards and ensure compliance with local and national codes.
  • Coordinate specialized repairs related to fire/life safety systems.
  • Manage hazardous waste handling and disposal in accordance with EPA and state regulations.
  • Prepare and submit required environmental reports such as Tier II.
  • Respond to and investigate concerns regarding indoor air and water quality.
  • Plan and oversee EHS-related projects including policy rollouts, inspections, and corrective action initiatives.
  • Track project status and EHS Key Performance Indicators, and deliver regular reports and presentations to leadership.
