About The Position

The newly created Company, FerroWorks, has locations in Pittsburgh, McKees Rocks, and Kutztown, PA including McConway and Torley and Standard Forged, which have been in continuous operations since 1869, the same year the first US transcontinental railroad was completed. We have been able to meet the needs of our customers with a steady, dependable and economical supply of high-quality railroad industry products. As McConway is the original designers of the first standard automatic coupler, continued innovation and craftsmanship have and has led to a product line that includes every ARR approved coupler as well as custom coupler solutions, which are all proudly cast in the US. McConway and Torley is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Intern to join our team. This internship will provide hands-on experience in the implementation and support of EHS programs and initiatives. The EHS Intern will assist in ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while helping to promote a culture of safety and sustainability within our organization. Some of your key responsibilities will include:

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a degree program related to Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong interest in environmental, health, and safety issues
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience or coursework related to EHS is a plus, but not required
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and environmental compliance standards
  • Basic understanding of environmental and safety risk management
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the development and implementation of safety and environmental programs and procedures
  • Conducting safety audits and site inspections to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions
  • Helping with EHS reporting and record-keeping, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Collaborating with EHS team to track and analyze workplace incidents, near misses, and safety trends
  • Coordinating the delivery of safety training programs to employees
  • Supporting environmental compliance tasks, including waste management, recycling initiatives, and sustainability projects
  • Participating in the creation of safety data sheets (SDS), safety manuals, and other related documentation
  • Assisting with risk assessments, safety assessments, and emergency response planning.
  • Helping with the preparation for external audits and inspections (e.g., OSHA, EPA)
  • Providing general administrative support to the EHS department as needed
