About The Position

BEM Systems, LLC (BEM). —an environmental consulting firm providing comprehensive environmental services —is hiring Full-Time Environmental Field Technicians for the 2026 field season. This is a hands-on, outdoor role ideal for college students, recent grads, or anyone studying environmental science, biology, ecology, or natural resources who wants real-world experience beyond the classroom. This seasonal position starts in the April/May time frame (weather dependent) and runs through the fall, offering paid, field-based experience that builds skills employers in environmental and natural resource fields are looking for. What You’ll Be Doing You’ll be part of a field team working across Alaska conducting work on long-term monitoring and remedial investigation projects. The majority of work will be conducted in Alaska during the peak of the field season May through August; select required training, such as the use of specific field equipment, HAZWOPER, and CPR/First Aid, may take place in April, prior to field work starting.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in an environmental-related science or engineering university program.
  • Proficient with MSWord, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook software.
  • Self-motivated team player.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable traveling by small aircraft, helicopter, and/or four-wheelers.
  • Physically able to work long hours in the field, including travel to remote locations and exposure to inclement weather and rugged terrain.
  • Commitment to safe work practices.
  • Ability to obtain the necessary background security clearances to active military installations.
  • Ability to perform well under pressure and within established deadlines.
  • Ability to work extra hours to accommodate the work load (May-August).
  • Ability to carry objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong analytical skills to synthesize field and laboratory data for purposes of interpretation, distilling trends, comparison against regulatory standards, and drawing conclusions are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support the field lead and project managers on field investigations (soil, groundwater, sediment, surface water). This may include using field sampling and testing equipment, GPS and iPad equipment for data collection, and documenting field measurements under the direction of a Qualified Environmental Professional or Qualified Sampler.
  • Provide office support for projects, including supporting the preparation of permits, work plans, and technical reports.

  • BEM will pay for various certifications and educational training to assist in advancing the intern’s knowledge and are specific to the projects they will be supporting.
  • This position is hourly with a minimum of 24 hours a week.
  • There may be weeks where students will be working 50 hours a week in Fairbanks or various remote radar sites. In these situations, housing, transportation, and per diem will be provided.
