About The Position

Engineering work at an advanced professional level for the Department of Environmental Conservation. Duties involve complex tasks in the technical review and analysis of environmental policies, programs, activities and data in a variety of regulatory, non-regulatory, and engineering programs. Duties entail the collection and analysis of engineering data, evaluation of conceptual engineering plans and the preparation and evaluation of engineering design and construction plans and specifications. Work involves independence in assuring completion of work assignments, and responsibility and accountability for work performed by project teams, and differs from a lower level engineer in the number and complexity of assigned responsibilities and their environmental, health and economic effects, and in the level of influence and responsibility involving collaboration between teams within the organization. May provide project or program oversight and/or supervise program staff or provide expertise in a specialized engineering or program element, which is not duplicated in the Department. Work is performed under the general direction of an Environmental Program Manager or Division Director.This position, Environmental Engineer VIII - Water Investment Division - Temporary (Job Requisition #54490), is open to all State employees and external applicants. This is a temporary position. Temporary work is typically for variable hours, and is not expected to be full-time. The State does not guarantee 40 hours of work per week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in environmental, sanitary, chemical, water resources, civil or mechanical engineering or a related field AND five (5) or more years of experience in in a related engineering field
  • One (1) year or more of experience as an Environmental Engineer VII or two (2) years or more as an Environmental Engineer VI.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters Degree in environmental, sanitary, chemical, water resources, civil or mechanical engineering or a related
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in Vermont, by written examination, in the fields of civil, civil/sanitary, environmental or sanitary.
