About The Position

Barr is seeking an environmental data management technician to join our team. In this hybrid role, you will support the Assessment and Remediation business unit. The person in this position will work primarily in the environmental database EQuIS and heavily in Microsoft Excel. Assigned work tasks may include entering data into the EQuIS database; manually checking data thoroughly against original documents; entering geologic data and producing boring logs; producing charts and reports; performing advanced formulas and functions in Microsoft Excel; following processes set by the data management department; and discussing data and projects with other data management staff and project teams. The ideal candidate for this position is a clear and confident communicator who thrives in both collaborative and independent work environments. They are adaptable, organized, and proactive, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills grounded in scientific reasoning and technical expertise. They bring a high level of attention to detail and demonstrate accuracy and completeness in managing large environmental datasets using tools like EQuIS and Microsoft Excel. For more experienced candidates, leadership, mentoring, and the ability to build strong client relationships are also important. Above all, they value teamwork, quality, and integrity in delivering impactful environmental solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies or sciences, geology, chemistry, biology, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of professional experience working with databases and advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including experience with charts, macros, pivot tables, and other functions.
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with EQuIS and Microsoft Suite.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of and experience with Access, Python, R, and/or Power BI.
  • Knowledge of chemistry and/or geology.
  • Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Apply scientific and environmental knowledge to manage, validate, and analyze large datasets using EQuIS and Microsoft Excel.
  • Use advanced Excel tools such as pivot tables, macros, and formulas to support data-driven environmental projects with precision and consistency.
  • Contribute to the success of environmental projects by supporting data workflows, coordinating with technical teams, and helping ensure that data deliverables meet project timelines, quality standards, and client requirements.
  • Develop scopes of work, budgets, and timelines according to client specifications and needs.
  • Apply deductive reasoning and scientific thinking to identify data discrepancies, assess data quality, and assist in the resolution of technical issues in environmental datasets.
  • Interpret site data within regulatory and environmental frameworks while contributing to accurate, complete, and meaningful data deliverables
  • Prepare clear and concise data summaries, charts, boring logs, and figures for internal use and project documentation.
  • Provide concise status updates to project managers and stakeholders.
  • Work effectively with various stakeholders to best ensure data quality and project success.
  • Show a proactive and professional attitude while learning technical systems and growing within a supportive team environment.
