The Environmental Compliance Specialist supports the daily environmental compliance functions of the utility by ensuring all wastewater, stormwater, and pretreatment activities meet Federal, State, and local regulatory requirements. This includes managing NPDES and MS4 reporting obligations, preparing DMRs, MORs, and other mandated submittals, and maintaining accurate compliance records using systems such as HACH WIMS and Microsoft Teams. The specialist plays a key role in coordinating data collection, sampling schedules, and process control monitoring in collaboration with operations staff. Additional responsibilities include tracking chemical usage and laboratory supplies, documenting facility inspections, supporting environmental programs, and communicating regularly with internal teams, regulators, and clients. Through detailed data management and consistent oversight of compliance tasks, the specialist helps ensure reliable facility performance and ongoing regulatory adherence. We are seeking an Environmental Compliance Specialist with strong experience in wastewater, stormwater, and regulatory reporting. In this role, you will be deeply involved in the day‑to-day execution of environmental compliance activities, including data verification, permit reporting, sampling coordination, and facility inspections. You will maintain consistent communication with operations staff, clients, and regulatory agencies while supporting accurate documentation and timely submission of all required compliance reports and records. What will you be doing at Woodard & Curran? The Environmental Compliance Specialist will play an active role in coordinating with operations staff, regulatory agencies, client representatives, and contractors to ensure all environmental compliance activities are completed accurately and on schedule. They will work closely with internal teams to support permit compliance, data management, reporting, and process monitoring. The successful candidate will be responsible for hands‑on tasks such as conducting inspections, verifying operational data, maintaining organized compliance records, and preparing all required regulatory reports. They will provide continuous support to daily compliance-related operations, helping ensure the facility meets all federal, state, and local environmental requirements.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Associate’s degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
  • 2-4 years in water/wastewater operations support or environmental compliance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Being able to make sound decisions in process control and follow instructions, as well as following safety procedures.
  • Successful candidates will be required to complete a background check, pre-placement physical and drug screen before employment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure full compliance with all NPDES permit requirements, including renewals, reporting, and regulatory adherence.
  • Assist with data collection and reporting for stormwater and MS4 permit compliance.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual EZDMRs, MSRs, MORs, pretreatment reports, biosolids reports, and DMR‑QA analyses.
  • Support environmental programs including pretreatment monitoring, cross connection control, and stormwater compliance. ‑connection control, and stormwater compliance.
  • Manage daily operational data review, verification, and entry in HACH WIMS; coordinate improvements with O&M staff.
  • Track and monitor key facility process control parameters and sampling schedules in coordination with operations.
  • Manage chemical usage tracking, consumables inventory, and laboratory supply levels.
  • Maintain records for Greasezilla operations and track facility repairs, upgrades, and modifications.
  • Conduct weekly facility inspections and maintain organized files within Microsoft Teams.
  • Generate weekly operational status reports and maintain daily communication with operations staff to ensure compliance and data accuracy.
  • Utilize Excel, Word, Teams, SCADA, HACH WIMS, and PowerPoint for daily work tasks.
  • Provide environmental compliance training and support implementation of management systems and policies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
