In this unique role, you will have two primary responsibilities: Developing, implementing, and managing the Company’s environmental programs. This includes the development, implementation, and monitoring of the Company’s hazardous waste program in California Implementing and managing the Company’s safety and health programs in all retail stores in the State of California. This involves training and auditing the Company’s safety and health programs via store audits. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to: Support the Company’s environmental, health and safety programs. Evaluate retail store locations environments against federal, state, and industry-specific environmental requirements and guidelines. Update the Manager of Store Safety on progress related to the development and implementation of environmental programs in California. Partner with retail store operation leaders (District Manager and/or Regional Director) to conduct training and auditing of environmental programs. Participate in Field leadership conference calls. Work with Regional Human resources to conduct training for all new Store Managers and District Managers. Set follow up meetings once new leader is in place to ensure location(s) are set for success and audit compliant. Conduct store visits to ensure compliance with the California hazardous waste program. Assist in the implementation, management, and development of systems to determine the hazardous classification of certain products and the proper disposal of same. Conduct on-site audits in stores of environmental programs. Analyze completed audits and recap audit results on a regular basis. Identify, direct, and supervise actions when/if an urgent issue is discovered regarding a company environmental program. Assist with the development and implementation of environmental policies to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. Directly communicate with government inspectors and regulators regarding the Company’s environmental programs, as necessary. Remain informed regarding trends in California compliance and other areas to be the Company’s resource expert as it relates to hazard waste and related environmental programs. Collaborate with internal legal and compliance business partners regarding the successful execution of the Company’s environmental programs. Provide strategic direction and oversight of Company environmental programs, in California. Investigate the root cause of environmental non-compliance in stores. Ensure that regulatory and internal reporting is submitted on time and is accurate. Provide technical guidance and expertise to business partners on environmental compliance. Represent the Company at external environmental forums and benchmarking groups.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years’ experience in Environmental, Health and Safety; or retail operations.
  • Strong people skills: the ability to quickly develop relationships and communicate with multiple internal and external business partners.
  • Analytical thinking and problem solving; able to creatively solve problems, innovative approaches where required with ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented and coordination of multiple priorities in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to interface effectively with regulators and associates.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly interpret complex regulatory issues and provide recommended course of action.
  • Demonstrated ability to build competency and serve as a mentor, teacher, and coach in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to present complex information in an easily understood manner.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule.
  • Expect to travel 75% of the time (overnight stay).

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination education and experience.
  • Professional certifications, such as GSP, ASP, and CSP.
