About The Position

What You Can Expect As an Environmental Compliance Analyst I at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, you will support ENGIE’s mission to maintain full environmental compliance across utility operations. You will work directly with the environmental compliance team to ensure all testing, sampling, inspections, permitting, and reporting requirements are completed accurately and on time. You will partner closely with ENGIE-operated utility groups including the power plant, water plant, chilled water plants, and electrical and steam distribution teams. You will also support environmental requirements for capital construction projects by working with ENGIE CAPEX and University stakeholders. This role is well suited for someone who takes ownership of their work, communicates clearly, and values teamwork while remaining effective working independently. Your work will directly support environmental stewardship and regulatory accountability across campus operations. Reporting to the Environmental Advisor, your role and responsibilities include:

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Public Health, or related field
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience working in environmental compliance roles
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and standard office tools
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple work assignments with accuracy and accountability
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ownership mindset with follow-through on assigned project
  • This role requires attendance at a worksite on a daily basis
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license/clean driving record
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies

Responsibilities

  • Review capital projects to identify permitting needs and environmental compliance requirements
  • Prepare and submit routine environmental compliance reports
  • Monitor plant recordkeeping and maintain accurate compliance documentation
  • Provide environmental compliance training to ENGIE staff
  • Deliver regular status updates to the environmental team, ENGIE leadership, and University stakeholders
  • Conduct site visits to ENGIE-operated utility facilities for inspections, project meetings, and training
  • Coordinate with procurement teams to obtain quotes and proposals for environmental projects
  • Support audits, inspections, and regulatory follow-ups
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
