This is a full-time, regular (i.e. tenure-track) faculty position in the school of Professional and Continuing Education at The Evergreen State College starting in the 2026-27 academic year. The Evergreen State College seeks a faculty member with advanced training and experience in environmental science, applied geospatial science. This faculty member will act as the lead faculty for an introductory–level GIS Certificate program. Depending on their area of expertise, they will also teach foundational and intermediate-level environmental studies courses which could include environmental science or other environmental studies. Faculty are expected to develop curriculum independently and in collaboration with faculty from a wide range of social science, physical science, arts, and humanities disciplines. The faculty member will teach some discipline-specific, career-connected courses, and they will team-teach some exploratory interdisciplinary classes. Evergreen’s school of Professional and Continuing Education provides transformative education for working adults and lifelong learners seeking a bachelor’s degree or a certificate credential, but it also attracts traditional age undergraduate students. The curriculum combines theory with practice and is offered during evenings and weekends in multiple teaching modes (in-person, online, and hybrid). Accordingly, we seek highly collaborative colleagues who are interested in career-connected learning and creative online instruction for diverse learners. Due to our campus’ interdisciplinary nature, faculty should also be prepared to address broad social themes and explore transcendent pedagogical approaches to learning and teaching. Candidates should demonstrate robust experience teaching quantitative literacy and GIS in concert with their area of environmental science expertise. The candidate chosen for this position will play a lead role in guiding the development of career-connected pathways in environmental studies and interdisciplinary GIS for part-time, evening and weekend, undergraduate students. Candidates will also play a lead role in guiding students toward internship and advanced independent learning. Candidates with robust research backgrounds are encouraged to consider ways that their interests may foster undergraduate student research opportunities.
