About The Position

The Environment of Care and Emergency Management Coordinator is responsible for coordinating environment of care and emergency management activities for Doctors Community Medical Center. This position is responsible for the development, implementation, and monitoring of environmental safety; Environment of Care management plans; identifying, evaluating, establishing, and implementing strategies for emergency management; developing, planning, coordinating, and evaluating an emergency management program to meet the health and medical needs of the community; developing and maintaining relations with affiliated local, regional, state, and national emergency management community. This position will serve as the Chair of the Environment of Care and Emergency Management Committee. This position will manage the Life Safety Specialist and provide support in the Life Safety Management Program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university; RN preferred; Master's Degree preferred
  • Five years of experience developing, implementing and evaluating emergency management or environment of care programs
  • Knowledge of The Joint Commission standards, National Fire Protection Agency codes (NFPA) codes, Incident Command System (ICS), and other applicable regulatory standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience in a hospital or health care environment.
  • Preferred License/Certifications: Hospital Emergency Management FEMA certifications in ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800 ASHE Managing Life Safety certification

Responsibilities

  • Is responsible for the Hospital's Environmental Safety Management Program which is designed to provide a physical environment free of hazards and manages staff activities to reduce the risk of injury.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain environment of care policies and procedures.
  • Chairs the Environment of Care/Emergency Management committee and assures minutes are distributed in a timely manner and disseminates recommendations to appropriate departments/services.
  • Ensures that all the Environment of Care standards in The Joint Commission Manual are met.
  • Assures there is a Fire Prevention Program designed to protect patients, personnel, visitors, and property from fire and the products of combustion, and to provide for the safe use of buildings.
  • Ensures the Medical Equipment Management Program is designed to access to control the clinical and physical risks of fixed and portable medical equipment.
  • Evaluates the Utilities Management Program to assure the operation reliability.
  • Assists with the Security Management Program to minimize the risk of personal injury or property loss due to criminal activity or work place violence.
  • Ensures a hazardous materials and waste plan is in place that identifies and manages material known to have the potential to harm humans or the environment.
  • Manages hazardous chemical inventory in MSDS Online.
  • Leads the Workplace Violence Prevention Program to include Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training, policies related to workplace violence, and Chair of the Workplace Violence Prevention and Safety Committee.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate emergency management goals, objectives, policies, and procedures incorporating regulatory requirements and best practices in the field of emergency management.
  • Serve as advisor to the Incident Commander during emergency events.
  • Serve as liaison to outside agencies during these events.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all Joint Commission guidelines for Emergency Preparedness standards are communicated and met.
  • Support the implementation and on-going education/training of the Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) and emergency management activities throughout the organization.
  • Orchestrate the execution emergency management exercises for DCMC based on organizational need, Joint Commission, and other regulatory agency requirements.
  • Convene an inter-departmental critique of each drill or real events and record recommendations and lessons learned.
  • Serve as DCMC representative with local, regional, state, and national committees.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local, regional, state, and national organizations, agencies, and first responders.
  • Manage life safety staff
  • Ensures compliance in the following: Quality improvement programs, Interim life safety measures, Mandatory Inspections of life safety systems to include fire alarm, suppression and sprinkler systems, and Medical gas alarm systems
