About The Position

Peraton has an opening for an Environment Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist to join our team in Las Cruces, NM at the White Sands Complex (WSC). Peraton’s Space Exploration Network Services and Evolution (SENSE) contract with NASA provides communications support for existing and upcoming science and human exploration missions and provides an opportunity to work on advanced space to ground communications. Peraton is the prime contractor for NASA at the White Sands Complex (WSC) near Las Cruces, New Mexico. Operating here are two functionally identical satellite ground terminals: The White Sands Ground Terminal, and the Second TDRSS Ground Terminal. These ground terminals ensure uninterrupted communications between various ground stations, NASA’s orbiting fleet of Tracking and Data Relay Satellites (TDRS), customer spacecraft (satellites), and the computer systems that support such spacecraft. WSC serves as an interface for distributing satellite data to control centers and scientists who then use the daily influx of data to expand our ever-growing knowledge of the Earth and the universe. In this role, you’ll perform a variety of EHS activities to plan and implement the Peraton EHS Management System and comply with NASA standards and EHS regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree with an emphasis in safety, engineering, science, or related technical field and 5+ years of related professional experience.
  • Prior experience implementing EHS Management System (e.g., ANSI Z10, ISO 14001 and 45001).
  • Knowledge and ability to apply Federal, State, and consensus standards to ensure EHS programs are within compliance of NASA and industry consensus standards.
  • Experience supporting industrial hygiene monitoring, medical surveillance programs and worker compensation requirements.
  • Experience supporting and managing hazardous waste program requirements.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Work will require lifting to 40 lbs., stooping, climbing, working at heights, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting and working with or in areas where potential could exist for exposure to physical and chemical agents.
  • Employee use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required in certain areas. PPE includes but is not limited to head, foot, hand, torso, respiratory, vision and hearing protective devices. Must comply with OSHA, EPA, and NFPA Standards and published company work rules.
  • The ability to travel - approximately 10%.
  • Security clearance - this position requires the candidate to be able to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance within a timeframe acceptable to the contract, and to maintain the clearance thereafter.

  • Mobile Elevated Work Platform and Powered Industrial Truck Operator experience/certification.
  • CPR/1st Aid instructor certification.
  • Fall Protection Instructor qualification.
  • Knowledge of RCRA and DOT Standards and requirements.
  • Professional certification such as Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Safety Management Specialist (SMS) or similar
  • Excellent organizational skills such as prioritizing and completing multiple tasks within critical deadlines, as well as verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform, coordinate and track EHS programmatic assessments and inspections.
  • Develop, prepare, and maintain EHS programmatic guidance, policies, and procedures.
  • Prepare and submit EHS reports, and documentation as required by NASA and federal and state agencies.
  • Support the incident investigation and reporting process to ensure root causes are identified, corrective actions implemented to prevent future occurrence and appropriate reporting requirements are met.
  • Support hazardous waste management programs to include monthly waste tracking, provide waste generator training and managing shipments of hazardous waste and universal waste.
  • Support SENSE personnel in hazard assessments and systems safety analysis of design and construction projects, operations, maintenance, and other activities to ensure effective controls are implemented.
  • Support and maintain the organization’s emergency preparedness and disaster response plan.
  • Develop educational materials, provide EHS training and manage the EHS learning management system.
  • Lead, participate and provide consultation to SENSE and NASA safety councils and committees.
  • Maintain EHS systems including site workflow process, safety data sheet management system, and mishap reporting databases for the WSC.
