About The Position

AWK Consulting Engineers, Inc is currently seeking an Entry to Mid-Level Geotechnical Engineers or Geologists for our offices in Pittsburgh and Harrisburg, PA.

Requirements

• 0-5 years of applicable experience
• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Geology
• Able to travel statewide and work out of town on longer-term assignments
• Must be physically capable of fieldwork
• Ability to manage time and prioritize tasks to maximize efficiency
• Valid PA driver's license

Nice To Haves

• Work experience in the geotechnical/construction industry a plus
• PennDOT Drilling Inspector Certification is preferred

Responsibilities

• Inspection of test boring drilling activities and classification of soil and rock samples retrieved during drilling
• Preparation of boring logs for various types of projects
• Assisting with development of laboratory testing programs
• Field reconnassaince
• Assist project engineer in preparing soil reconnaissance report (Subsurface Exploration Planning Submission)
• Design and analysis of various shallow and deep foundation systems for structures; including calculations to determine bearing resistance or load-carrying capacity of the foundations, along with estimation of foundation settlements under different subsurface conditions and structural loading combinations
• Prepare Structure Foundation Reports and other geotechnical analyses, such as slope stability
• Work will be performed under the supervision of senior project engineers and geologists
