About The Position

The University of Miami/UHealth Office of the Dean has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Entry Scientist to work at the UHealth campus in Miami, Fl. CORE JOB SUMMARY The Entry Scientist, SOM supports assigned research activities for the department. The appointee also furthers the University’s research goals and objectives and advances the University’s reputation as a leader in the field.

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree - Philosophy (PhD) required
  • No previous experience required

  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.

  • Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Laboratory Medicine, Biomedical Engineering, or related field.
  • Demonstrated research experience in neurodegenerative disease mechanisms, molecular biology, and animal/cellular model development.
  • Experience in grant writing, project administration, and collaborative research environments.
  • Advanced skills in experimental design, data analysis, and scientific communication.
  • Proficiency in molecular biology, protein aggregation studies, genetic testing, and autophagy research.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and sound judgment in critical decision-making.
  • Commitment to mentorship, collaboration, and professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Recruits and maintains patients in clinical research protocols.
  • Provides and follows best practices in clinical and translational research performance.
  • Processes and analyzes results and data.
  • Communicates results to the scientific community via published papers and agency reports.
  • Presents ongoing work and findings to colleagues at academic conferences, summarizing the nature of the research, methodology, and results.
  • Stays abreast of the work of other scientists within the department and scientific community.
  • Attends conferences and reads relevant journals.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
  • Design, conduct, and analyze experiments in neuroscience, focusing on molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration (e.g., ALS/FTD, protein misfolding, autophagy pathways).
  • Develop and utilize animal and cellular models to investigate disease mechanisms and therapeutic targets.
  • Assist in the preparation, submission, and management of research grants, including biosketches, progress reports, and compliance documentation.
  • Coordinate multi-institutional and collaborative research projects, acting as a liaison between investigators, administrative staff, and funding agencies.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze complex datasets using advanced statistical and computational methods.
  • Communicate research findings through peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and agency reports.
  • Present ongoing work and results at academic conferences and internal seminars, summarizing research methodology and outcomes.
  • Mentor junior researchers and students in experimental techniques, data analysis, and scientific writing.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams within the department and broader scientific community.
  • Stay abreast of current literature and emerging trends in neuroscience and related fields.
  • Serve as a peer reviewer for scientific journals and participate in professional societies and research networks.
