About The Position

AECOM is actively seeking to add an Entry Level Traffic and Intelligent Transportation Systems Engineer for our Pittsburgh, PA office. Our business focuses primarily on providing professional and technical services in engineering design, code consultation, and construction phase services for a wide variety of clients both in the private sector and public sector. We execute large and complex engineering projects and provide a comprehensive range of professional planning and design, systems engineering and technical assistance, program and construction management, and operations and maintenance services. This position is expected to begin in January 2026. As a Traffic and ITS Engineer at AECOM, you will build your analytic and design skills working on a variety of projects. Under the supervision of our experienced engineers, entry-level engineers conduct engineering designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings. You will be asked to use computer software as a tool for solving complex engineering problems and work with diverse teams of engineers on projects across the region.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License, and as a condition of employment, must pass AECOM's motor vehicle records review.

Nice To Haves

  • 0-2 years of Traffic/Transportation/ITS-related internship or work experience.
  • Engineer in Training certification.
  • MicroStation/AutoCAD experience.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Applicable course work and demonstrated interest in Transportation/Traffic Engineering and/or Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).
  • Experience with Synchro and HCS traffic analysis software, Bentley Softwares such as Microstation or OpenRoads Designer and Microsoft Office.
  • Prior design experience with Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and/or Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission as it relates to traffic engineering, signal design, ITS design, plan production, project estimates and specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Supports planning studies and reports for new and updated plans, programs and regulations.
  • Reviews or assists in the review of development proposals and site plans for conformance with codes, plans and regulations.
  • Prepares and presents detailed reports on development proposals to government bodies.
  • Collects a variety of statistical data and prepares reports and maps on topics, such as census information, land use, transportation tax base data and occupancy rates.
  • Under direct supervision, conducts field evaluations and assessments.
