About The Position

The Entry Level Mechanic will be responsible for assisting the Journey Mechanics on servicing and troubleshooting fleet vehicles and equipment. This role will require a well-organized, motivated, and mechanically inclined individual who is willing to learn and grow. This entry level position has the potential for promotion and wage advancement within in the department with continued on the job experience and the completion of relevant certification programs.

Requirements

  • Basic understanding of general mechanics
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to work flexible hours and days, to include nights, weekends, and extended hours
  • Ability to read, write and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to quickly learn and understand various processes regarding MGE’s policies, procedures, and software programs
  • Valid Class C Driver’s License with a clean driving record and no driving restrictions.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year of previous mechanic experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid Class A Driver’s License with a clean driving record and no driving restrictions.
  • Certifications in: Air Conditioning, Computer Diagnostics, Boom Inspections, Welding, Hydraulics, BIT, and Air Brakes.

Responsibilities

  • Support mechanics in equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on vehicles including diesel-powered vehicles and full-sized trucks.
  • Perform oil and filter changes for engines, transmissions, and hydraulic systems.
  • Maintain fluid levels, chassis, and equipment lubrication, and gasoline engine tune-ups.
  • Assist direct supervisor with keeping the shop floor running as efficiently as possible.
  • Repair, replace, and adjust brakes and brake pads.
  • Check air pressure and look for tire wear.
  • Clean and replace battery terminals.
  • Assist with disassembling engines and repair or replace defective parts.
  • Properly move and put away materials.
  • Operate and maintain good care of tools, equipment, and company vehicles.
  • Learn from on-the-job training when necessary.
  • Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Perform other job-related duties as requested by your supervisor.
