About The Position

Engineers in the Ship Signatures Department are responsible for ensuring that the ship's components, systems and structures are designed and built to meet a submarine's challenging radiated noise requirements Ship Signatures Hydroacoustics Ship Signatures Hydroacoustics groups are responsible for prediction and control of noise generated by hydrodynamic flow over the external surface and internal machinery noise of the ship. Areas of focus in these groups include array performance, external treatments performance, analysis of rotating structure, and propulsion performance. Engineers in this group are involved in extensive research to develop innovative solutions that can be implemented on current and future designs. The group works closely with the government laboratories to design, analyze, test and validate noise control reduction solutions. The group also develops, implements, and validates novel numerical modeling methods using finite element, ray tracing, and Kirchhoff analysis. Knowledge of rotating structural dynamics, airborne acoustics, fluid mechanics, oceanography, and beamforming is especially useful for this position.

  • Less than 5 years of postgraduate engineering experience
  • MATLAB experience or other coding language experience
  • An active DoD SECRET clearance, or ability to obtain a SECRET clearance
  • Experience in Finite element analysis or other computer-aided modeling experience (Altair Hyperwork, SolidWorks, Ansys, Abaqus, COMSOL)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skillsare necessary for success as a ship signatures engineer.
  • Developing productive relationships with internal and external customers, which may include collaborating engineering organizations, construction staff, government contractors and the Navy customer is key.
