About The Position

We are seeking an Entry Level Product Design Specialist to join our dynamic design team within the manufacturing industry. In this role, you will support the development and expansion of product lines using SolidWorks, assist with prototype builds and testing, and help manage projects from concept through validation. This position is ideal for someone early in their engineering or design career who is eager to grow, learn hands-on manufacturing processes, and contribute to innovative product development initiatives.

Requirements

  • Proficiency or strong working knowledge of SolidWorks.
  • Experience creating parametric models and using design tables in SolidWorks.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and sheet metal design principles.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to support multiple prototype projects simultaneously.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment.
  • Eagerness to learn and grow within a product development and manufacturing setting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, industrial design, manufacturing engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Internship, co-op, academic project, or hands-on experience using SolidWorks strongly preferred.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Extended periods of sitting at a computer workstation.
  • Strong attention to visual and dimensional details.
  • Occasional exposure to production or shop environments.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying lightweight to moderately heavy objects.
  • Wearing appropriate PPE and following safety guidelines when in manufacturing areas.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with DriveWorks is a plus but not required.
  • Exposure to sheet metal design, weldments, or assembly design is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize SolidWorks to create and modify 3D models, assemblies, and detailed 2D drawings for new and existing product lines.
  • Develop and maintain design tables in SolidWorks to support configurable and scalable product families.
  • Assist in developing standardized product configurations to improve efficiency and consistency across product lines.
  • Support prototype builds by preparing drawings, coordinating parts, and assisting with assembly and validation.
  • Help manage prototype projects by tracking timelines, documenting progress, and ensuring timely completion of deliverables.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, production, and sales to ensure designs align with manufacturing capabilities and customer requirements.
  • Participate in design reviews and implement feedback into revised models and drawings.
  • Create and maintain bills of materials (BOMs), assembly instructions, and technical documentation.
  • Assist in troubleshooting design-related issues during prototype and early production phases.
  • Maintain organized records of design revisions, test results, and project documentation for future reference.
  • Continuously looking for opportunities to improve product designs for manufacturability, cost-efficiency, and performance.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the design and manufacturing process.
