About The Position

Are you a recent Juneau high school graduate with an interest in a trades career? Do your long-term plans include staying in Juneau where you are currently rooted? Can you commit to a 10-week paid training program that can open doors to potential long-term employment? If so, apply today for this grant-funded entry-level construction training program designed to help youth stay connected and in Juneau as they transition from high school to career. WHAT IS NOT REQUIRED No previous construction experience required. No resume required. No high school degree or GED required.

Requirements

  • A commitment to completing all 10-weeks of the program (mid-May through mid-August).
  • A commitment to following all workplace safety rules and code of conduct expectations.
  • A desire to learn as much as possible in the construction industry.
  • Per grant funding, program is designed to connect youth transitioning from high school to a career in trades.
  • Be 18 years of age or older with an interested a starting a long-term career in construction or mechanical work.
  • Be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Be willing to follow strict workplace safety protocols.
  • Be reliable and commit to completing the program with a willingness to learn and follow all instructions.
  • Be able to work as part of a team with a positive attitude and commendable a work ethic.
  • Stand or walk for extended periods in outdoor jobsite construction environments.
  • Lift or move materials up to approximately 40 pounds.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain a strong sense of situational awareness to avoid injury or damage.
  • Attend all scheduled training sessions
  • Follow workplace safety guidelines
  • Demonstrate professionalism in a workplace environment
  • Participate in program evaluations and feedback surveys

Responsibilities

  • Assisting skilled trades professionals on active construction worksites.
  • Participating in hands-on learning activities and basic jobsite tasks.
  • Following workplace safety procedures and OSHA guidelines.
  • Completing required safety and workforce readiness training.
  • Learning proper use of tools, materials, and equipment.
  • Attending scheduled classroom instruction and training sessions.
  • Working collaboratively with peers and supervisors.
  • Demonstrating professionalism and reliability in a workplace setting.
  • Participating in career exploration activities with trade unions and employers.
